Bridging the Gap
Objective:
Requirements:
Internet Connection
MS Word
1. Watch the I-Witness documentary entitled ”Hindi Paiiwan’’ about the digital divide. Open 08 Video 1.
2. Answer each item based on the events in the documentary.
3. Elaborate on your answers in no less than three (3) sentences.
Items:
1. What was the main problem of the documentary?
-The documentary's major issue is the absence of fast internet connections in the Philippines,
particularly in tiny villages that do not have the backing of their local government when it comes to internet
access. Furthermore, because they are in the lower class, they do not have access to technologies that they can
utilize in their online learning sessions.
-Even though I have no firsthand experience with online classes, I am nonetheless aware of the difficulties that
students are having due of their poor internet connections. The documentary's subjects are extremely affected
since they are college students like myself. Due to the sluggish internet connection, students sometimes struggle
to pick up enough signal to hear their instructors during online classes.
-The two college students found a means to have a strong signal, but the issue in the video wasn't entirely fixed.
The Commission on Higher Education, however, recommends that institutions merely perform offline
instruction so that students won't have to spend too much for a data connection. If offline studying is not
possible, schools should also offer a gadget that students may use for free.
4. In your opinion, how come challenges like this still exist in our modern day and age?
-These issues are still present today since neither the government nor the educational system can offer a
solution to the pupils. Additionally, the Philippine government is not prepared for online learning courses and is
instead concentrating on giving kids better educational facilities.
- Research and development funding: To progress the sector and address existing issues, the government might
support research and development in the computing industry. Investing in educational programs and materials
that teach people about computers and assist them in gaining the skills they need to thrive in the sector is
something the government can do. The government can control how technology is used to guarantee that it is
utilized morally and responsibly, to guard against security dangers, and to address other issues.
