3f Class Update - April 21st
3f Class Update - April 21st
I hope you have a wonderful Easter with your families! Here are some updates for our class.
📘 Math - Fractions
https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/math.html
We have been learning all about basic fractions. We have learned that fractions are equal parts of a
whole or a set. The numerator (top number) tells us how many equal parts are being described.
The denominator (bottom number) tells us how many equal parts there are in total in the whole or
set. We are practicing how to represent fractions with pictures and numbers. We are learning how
to read, write, and say fractions as well, such as one half (1/2), one third (1/3), one fourth (1/4),
etc. Help your child to look for fractions around your home, your neighbourhood, and while you are
out in the community. Virtual fraction manipulatives can be found here for some home exploration:

🍨 We created fraction sundaes and wrote our flavours as fractions on our recipe cards. 🍨
📙 Language Arts
https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/language-arts.html
We have completed several realistic fiction and fantasy fiction stories in class and are now ready to
take our story writing skills to the next level. In the coming weeks, we will be exploring some more
ways to expand details and descriptions in our narrative stories to make them even more
interesting. Here are some detail generating questions that you can use at home to challenge your
child to stretch their imagination and descriptions while writing.
How old is the character? What is the weather like? What is the shape?
How tall is the character? What kinds of plants are there? What is the size?
What colour is their hair? What kinds of animals are there? What is the colour?
What colour are their eyes? What kinds of sounds do you hear? What is the texture?
What is the character wearing? What kinds of smells are there? What is it made of?
What is their expression? What do you see when you look Who does it belong to?
What is their personality? around? Why is it special?
📗 Science - Animal Life Cycles
https://grade3ferguson.weebly.com/science.html
We have started our exciting study of animals in science class! We have become junior zoologists as
we explore the classifications and life cycles of animals. We will be focusing mainly on vertebrates
(animals with backbones/spines) as we study the habitats, diets, behaviours, adaptations, and
other interesting characteristics of each group. To enrich your child’s understanding of the
concepts in this unit, try incorporating more animal books or even some animal research at home.
