Very good, class!

Did you find the game difficult to

perform?

What have these events

showed?

No, Ma’am. They were easy to

do.

They showed the order/

sequence of events.

B. Establishing a When was the last time you

purpose for the lesson heard a story or a narration?
There are narrative techniques
used in delivering plot. When we
listen to a story being told, we
would like to know what
happened till the end and know
the events or the plot in the story.

At the end of this lesson, you are

expected to:
 Evaluate narratives based on
how the author developed
the elements: Plot
(chronological sequential, in
medias res, flashback)

Do you think you can achieve this

goal? Yes, we are!

C. Presenting 1. Our day would start when we

examples/ instances wake up, and end when we go to
of the new lesson bed.

Can somebody identify what is

the first event in the sentence?
The first event in the sentence is
when we wake up.
How about the last event?
The last event in the sentence is
when we go to bed.
Do you think the sentence follows
the normal order of events?
Yes, Ma’am.

How do you say so?

The sentence follows the normal
order of events because it has a
beginning and an end.

2. At Nerf gunpoint, Rosie began

to cry. Her eyes filling with tears
over a life wasted.

Can somebody identify what is

the first event in the sentence?
The first event in the sentence is
at Nerf gunpoint.
How about the last event?
The last event in the sentence is
Rosie began to cry.
Do you think the sentence follows
the normal order of events?
No, Ma’am.
How do you say so?
The sentence does not follow the
normal order of events because
it begins with a nerf gunpoint
instead of beginning with the
reason why the pointing of gun
started.
3. Jacob lifted the perfume bottle
to his nose, feeling the brittle
paper of the label beneath his
fingers. He is reminded of his late
mother, who sat at her vanity
brushing her hair.

Can somebody identify what is The first event in the sentence is

the first event in the sentences? when Jacob lifted the perfume
bottle to his nose.

The last event in the sentence is

How about the last event?
when he is reminded of his late
mother, who sat at her vanity
brushing her hair.

Do you think the sentence follows

the normal order of events? No, Ma’am.

How do you say so? The sentence does not follow the
normal order of events because
it goes back to the past as Jacob
remember his late mother from
the smell of perfume.
A. Discussing New A narrative is the account of
Concepts events, experiences and details
of story. It is a series of events
which lead to an understanding of
a story.

A plot is a sequence of related

events in the story. It is generally
constituted by three (3) main
stages: beginning, climax, and
ending. In this part of the lesson,
this will primarily focus on the
three ways on how to evaluate
narratives based on how the
author developed the elements
particularly in the plot:

1. Chronological sequential is a
narrative technique in which the
story has beginning, middle, and
end. The events are explicitly
stated from exposition to
resolution.

Example: The rehearsal dinner

will be on Friday night. Afterward,
we are hoping that many of the
guests will help to clean the area
for tomorrow's wedding.

In these sentences, the transition

"afterward" highlights a
chronology of events (first the
dinner, then the cleaning)

2. In Medias Res is a narrative

technique in which the story
starts in the middle without
exposition.

Example: The thriller movie

starts with the detective already
on the search for the killer.

The thriller movie starts with

climax where the detective was
already on the search for the
killer instead of beginning with
the reason why the search for the
killer started started.

3. Flashback is a narrative
technique in which the story has
an interruption of the current
story to show a scene from the
past.

Example: In a story about a girl

who is afraid of heights, there is a
flashback to a time when she fell
off of the top of a playground as a
young child.

The reason why she is afraid of

heights in the present is because
when she was a young child she
fell off the top of a playground.
Yes, Ma’am!
Can you tell me whether the
narrative is chronologically
sequential, in medias res, or in Chronological Sequential
flashback?

1. Lisa bikes on Sundays. She

studies on Mondays. She swims
on Tuesdays.
Flashback
2. Rosa was already cooking
when power cut. She remembers
how she and her day would cook
in camp. She was able to finish
cooking using firewood. In Medias Res

3. “Bring the rain!” Soldiers were

everywhere. Warfare against the
rebels began. Civilians were
rescued and kept in safe places.
For our activity, I will group you
into three in which you will be
working in different task. Each
group that finishes their work will
do yes clap and have two
representatives paste their work
on the board and present it to the
class.
