1. Background of the study

The study is entitled as “ A Study on Saving Deposit of Himalayan Bank Limited ’’. A
savings account is a basic type of financial account that allow customers to deposit
money and typically earn a modest amount of interest. A savings account is a good place
to keep money for a later date, separate from everyday spending cash, because of their
safety, liquidity and interest-earning potential. These accounts are a great place for
emergency fund or savings for shorter-term goals, like a vacation or home repair. The
prime focus of the study is to analyze the saving pattern, its mobilization and utilization.
A bank is a financial institution established with an aim to collect money which are
unused and scattered and to provide such money as a loan to profit making sectors. Bank
offers attractive deposit schemes to collect money from public. Such deposits are then
mobilized to various productive areas. This act boost the economy of the country as a
whole. Moreover, I have selected Himalayan Bank Limited for the research because it is
one of the leading commercial bank in Nepal established in 1993.

2. Scope of the study

The scope of a study on saving deposits can vary depending on the research question and
design, but some common areas of focus include:

Types of saving deposits: This include a review and analysis of traditional savings
accounts, money market accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), and other forms of
saving deposit products.

Market trends: This include an analysis of interest rates, account balances, and changes in
consumer behavior over time.

Consumer behavior: This include an investigation of the factors that influence consumer
choice in selecting a saving deposit account, including interest rates, fees, and access to
funds.
Government regulations: This include a review of government policies and regulations
that impact the saving deposit market, and an evaluation of their effectiveness in
promoting consumer protection and financial stability.

Consumer education and awareness: This include an examination of the level of

consumer knowledge and understanding of saving deposit products, and a review of any
gaps in knowledge that need to be addressed through education and outreach.

The specific scope of a study on saving deposits depend on the research question and
design, but the overall goal is typically to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date
understanding of the saving deposit market, and to identify areas for improvement that
can benefit consumers and the economy as a whole.

3. Statement of the problem

A Statement of the problem is a brief explanation of the issue to be addressed or a

situation to be improved on. It aims in identifying and explaining problem.
There are several problems associated with saving deposits that can negatively impact
consumers. One of the main problems with saving deposits is that they often offer very
low interest rates, making it difficult for savers to grow their savings. This can be
particularly challenging in an environment of rising inflation, where the value of money
is declining over time. Low interest rates can also lead to a phenomenon known as
inflation erosion, where the real value of money declines over time because of inflation.
This can make it difficult for savers to maintain their purchasing power and achieve their
long-term financial goals. Another issue with saving deposits is that they come with
restrictions on the number of withdrawals that can be made, or penalties for early
withdrawal. This can limit a depositor's access to their funds, making it difficult for them
to use their savings for unexpected expenses or emergencies. Some saving deposit
accounts also charge maintenance fees, which can eat into the depositor's interest
earnings and reduce the overall return on their savings. Some saving deposit products,
such as CDs, have penalties for early withdrawal, which can limit the depositor's ability
to access their funds quickly and easily. This can make it difficult for savers to respond to
unexpected financial needs or changes in their circumstances. Overall, the problems
associated with saving deposits highlight the need for consumers to carefully consider
their savings goals and needs, and to compare and evaluate different types of savings
products in order to find the one that best meets their needs.
