DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives
1. Execute properly the basic steps of Carinosa.
2. Apply basic dance steps to demonstrate appreciation of Philippine culture through
Cariñosa.
3. Perform the Cariñosa dance.

Yesterday, we have discussed and performed
Folkdance steps in 2/4 and ¾ time.
1. So, who can perform or execute the close step?
2. Who can demonstrate the waltz step?
3. And who can execute the touch step?
C. Motivation
Class, I will show you the picture of partners dancing.
Then, I will randomly call a few of you to tell or to share
to the class.
What you have observed in the picture. Sir, the picture that had
shown is Carinosa.

D. Presentation
As what you have observed, the Girl in the picture
is holding a fan and the boy has a handkerchief on his
side or hanging from his pocket. It shows that the
boy has a feeling towards the girl. This kind of
dance resembles the shyness and modesty of a Filipina.

that portrays acts of flirtation between a

seek movements and other flirting acts
expressing tender feeling for one another.

It starts with the right foot, take three steps
sideward right. Point left foot in front.
Right hand in reverse “T” position and left
hand on skirt/waist. Kumintang right hand
when pointing left foot.

It starts with the right foot, take three steps
forward and meet at the center. Take four
touch steps forward to partner’s place,
passing each other by right shoulder. Turn
right about to face each other and close
right to left.

The partners meet at the center as in figure
2. Turn right about to be in back-to-back
position, slightly to right of partner. Girl
holds skirt; boy places hands on waist.

Point right foot in front and shake right


index finger at partner over right shoulder
by left shoulder; left hand on waist. Step
right sideward to be side by side with
partner by left shoulder; place right hand
on waist.

The girl holds and open fan with the right
hand. Point right foot in front and cover
face with fan. The boy point right and left
foot alternately in front and look at partner
from underneath the fan, hands on waist.
F. Generalization
How do we appreciate the cariñosa
folkdance? Carinosa dance is a Philippine
folkdance of Hispanic origin. It
is a courtship dance that
portrays acts of
flirtation between a man
and a woman. The dancers use
fan for girls and
handkerchief for boys as
their props. The four figures of
Carinosa dance are three steps
and point, pointing, back-to-
back and hide and seek with fan.

G. Valuing
Why do we have to learn to dance carinosa? It’s our National Dance. It shows
courtesy especially to Filipina
women, through that we can also
develop patriotism and
nationalism. Dancing folkdance can
be also a form of exercise that will benefit
our health.

H. Evaluation
The students will be divided into four (4) groups. You are going to perform the four
figures of Carinosa dance. You or each group will choose randomly (“bonut”). I will be
going to give you five minutes to practice. Ok class?

IV. Assignment
Direction: Answer the following questions in your notebook.
1. Research about the desired costumes of the Carinosa.
2. Research the literature of the last four figures (V-VIII) of Carinosa.
