MODULE 3- ASSESSMENT

Answers the following:


1. What is Delegation?
Delegation means shifting authority and responsibility for functions, tasks,
or decisions from one person to another. For instance, a leader or manager will
give authority or responsibility to other people or members of the group.

2. Define the Following


 Directing – is the stage where a leader offers guidance and instructions to
the members who lack experience in doing a certain task. This is to
ensure that the team member would know what to achieve and perform
the task correctly to have more probability of success.
 Coaching – this is a stage where the leader still makes decisions, but it is
more appropriate for members who are more advanced and still need
directions. Through this, the member will be able to develop the things
they can already do with the help of the leader’s coaching.
 Supporting – this is the stage where the leader continues to offer support
so that the subordinate who is now able to be more independent also
continues to be comfortable with the tasks.
 Delegating - this is the last stage where the member is completely
independent to carry out the tasks they are assigned.

3. What are the 3 elements of delegation and explain each element.


 Authority - This is an essential element that refers to the power to
complete an assigned task. A leader must provide authority of carrying out
the task to the subordinate so they can complete it.
 Responsibility – This refers to the obligation of the subordinate to perform
the task assigned to them. It arises when a leader or manager assigns a
specific task to a certain member.
 Accountability – This refers to the liability for the task assigned.
Subordinates are accountable for the task they are assigned, and the
leaders are accountable for the tasks they assigned and the instructions
they provide since the success rate of the outputs depends on them.

4. What are the Benefits of Delegating?

The benefit of delegating includes having more time to focus on the more
difficult tasks since the other members are carrying out the other lower-level
tasks. It also gives an opportunity for the members to learn and develop new
skills. By working together, the trust between the leaders and members and their
communication will likely develop. Furthermore, it is more efficient and promotes
productivity and time management.
5. Enumerate the 10 Steps for Effective Delegation and explain each step.

1. Identify the task – A task that needs to be delegated must be clear.


2. Choose who to delegate the task to – A leader must determine who has the skill
and is the most trustworthy for completing the task.
3. Confirm level of interest – Members who are interested in the task assigned to
them are the ones who are usually committed and have a higher success rate in
completing the task.
4. Clearly define the task – A task must be explained clearly including how should
they be done and what should be the result.
5. Clarify the level of responsibility, authority, and accountability – Set out clear
levels of responsibility, authority, and accountability depending on the task and
the person assigned according to the level of their comfort.
6. Establish timeframes and completion dates – Give specific suggestions on how
much time, how many days, or weeks are needed to accomplish the task
assigned. This must be discussed with the workers whether they agree or not
with the given timeframe.
7. Express confidence – Show your trust to members so they gain confidence and
believe that they could carry out the task.
8. Monitor progress and give feedback – This is important to keep updated with the
progress of the work. This can also let you know if there are problems while
conducting a task and solve them right away.
9. Give credit – This refers to giving praise and appreciation to those who did their
job well. This promotes inspiration to accomplish new tasks.
10. Review – Always check the output and consider if they did well or might need
some more effort. This helps to decide if a member is ready to take a new task of
a different level.
