3 Safety
WARNING
Even if the generator is switched off there are still components, internal to
the generator cabinet, which are electrically live !
Only qualified and trained service personnel may open the cabinets !
Incorrect handling can result in danger to life or limb!
ATTENTION
Never place objects on the ventilator grating of the generator cabinet !
Improper handling can lead to overheating and damage to the generator!

5.1.1.1 General
Various exposure techniques can be selected:
• Organ memory
Both keys have two steps. The first step introduces the preparation, the second step initiates
the radiation.
Note: The radiation can only be initiated when the generator has successfully processed all
internal confirmation prompts.
5.1.2 Fluoroscopy
For the fluoroscopy, the following operating modes can be set during the installation:
• Fluoroscopy with 4 selectable mA-increments
• Fluoroscopy with only one constant mA-increment
• Fluoroscopy with a current dependant upon the preset voltage.
The dose rate in the last of the aforementioned modes achieves very high dynamics (>1000)
through the type of the connection of tube voltage and tube current. The tube current
proportionally follows the tube voltage between a lower value and an upper value. At further
increases of the tube voltage, the tube current remains at its maximum value. The control
curve of the tube current with respect to the tube voltage is displayed in Figure 5-1 for the
normal range as well as the range with increased dose with the factory set default values.
The lower point and the upper point of the control straights can be varied during the
installation. In the normal dosage range the values are set as standard at (40 kV, 0,5 mA)
and (80 kV, 5 mA), and for the range with increased dose (40 kV, 1 mA) and (80 kV, 10 mA).
The irradiation of the patient with increased dose can be switched on for a restricted time
(default is 20 s), if this is necessary for the picture quality. The duration for irradiation with
increased dose can be adjusted by the service technician during commissioning, see also
Service Handbook.
COMMENT:
Legal regulations concerning irradiation with increased dose must be heeded.

5.3 Starter
The generator is equipped with a low speed starter in the standard configuration.
Alternatively, a high speed starter can be attached.
5.4 RS-Interfaces
Two RS232 interfaces are available. Using the interface on the control panel a service
technician can transfer organ names to the panel, which are then available for the organ
automation.
The (non-personalized) X-ray data, accrued in the course of an examination, can be
transmitted by means of the second interface on the generator over to a DP3840 STAR
printer. The following is transmitted:
• Date, time
• Surface dose product in mGycm²
• Number of exposures
• Fluoroscopy time

6.7.1 Activation
The automatic exposure control is activated, when a measuring field is selected. The
combination of several measuring fields is possible. The chosen measuring field is displayed
by a glowing LED.
If the automatic exposure control is activated, there appears in line "R:" additional information
with respect to the selected density correction and the film-screen-system.
If exposures are controlled by way of the automatic exposure control, then, in 2- and 3-point
technique, the exposure parameters mAs-product, alternatively circuit time should be set to
larger than expected in order to give the automatic exposure the necessary latitude to switch
off the exposure.
COMMENT: The film cassette must be changed prior to initiating a new exposure!
!! WARNING !!
Ionising radiation
Exposures may only be taken from behind protected areas!
If the switch is released during the exposure, then the exposure is immediately interrupted
(dead man's switch).
If the manual switch is released during the exposure, then the exposure is immediately
interrupted (dead man's switch).

With the organ automation it is possible to store in the memory 100 settings (memory
00 - 99) for individual organs. When switching on the generator, the first organ of an
organ group can be set in each case as the start value.
With help of a PC, texts can be transferred for organ names; see Service Manual for
more information. The invoked parameters for the exposure can be adapted, in each
case, to the examination situation and the patient.
cm
cm
By pressing one of these keys there appears in the display the indicator "±x cm" behind the
organ name. Simultaneously, the parameters kV and mAs each change by one density point
per cm. The change is noted by one of the four listed tables seen below. During the
commissioning each organ group must be assigned to one of these tables.
The cm adaptation includes an area of maximum ±10 cm. If the memory-stored values of the
exposure parameters are already nearing the limits of the generator, it is possible that this
area then cannot be fully utilized.
By pressing this key there appears in the display the type of plaster cast that has been
applied behind the organ name. Repeated pressing of this key scrolls through the settings,
similar to the selection of the exposure technology.

the individual plaster cast types during the commissioning.

The organ names, the sequence of the organ names and the number of the organs in a
group can only be altered in the service mode of the generator. Please contact your service
partner in this case.
Following is a table with the factory-supplied settings of the organ automation. This table is
only a suggestion! The memory-stored data can be altered at anytime.
If the automatic dose control mode is used, the parameters for the fluoroscopy are regulated
such that the optimal dosage for the picture always occurs on the picture amplifier.
If the fluoroscopy is switched on with increased dose, then simultaneously, the automatic
dose control mode is also activated. Renewed actuating of the key or letting go of the foot
switch switches off the "increased dose" function. If no manual deselection takes place, then
COMMENT:
Legal regulations concerning fluoroscopy with increased dosage must be
heeded
The entire expired fluoroscopy time is displayed in the line "F: " in minutes and seconds
during the examination. If 5 minutes irradiation time is reached, an acoustic warning signal is
heard and the LED in key 64 shines. After 10 minutes, the irradiation automatically switches
off if key No. 64 has not been acknowledged/cleared. Then, the foot switch must be opened
and the key actuated before the irradiation is again enabled.
Actuating key No. 64 before the end of the 10 minutes resets the monitoring timer. During the
further course of the examination, a WARNING is generated every 5 minutes. It always
necessitates an acknowledgement/clearing.
If a malfunction occurs, please observe/heed the instructions exactly. Never open up the
device.
CAUTION
Even if the generator is switched off there are still components, internal to
the generator cabinet, which are electrically live !
Only qualified and trained service personnel may open the cabinets !
Incorrect handling can result in danger to life or limb!
8.1 Cleaning
Turn off the generator before you begin with the cleaning.
Ensure that no liquids can get into the generator. Short circuits can result. Do not use spray
on the X-ray generator.
8.2 Disinfection
The methods used for disinfection must correspond to legal regulations and guidelines
(disinfection, explosion protection).
COMMENT:
If disinfectants have been used, which could generate explosive gas mixtures,
then the generator may only be switched on when these have dissipated.
Only subject the generator and the connected panels to a disinfection by wiping.
Disinfection sprays may not be applied because the atomised spray can penetrate the
insides of the device.
If a room disinfection is carried out using atomised spray, then the generator must cooled
down and carefully covered with foil.
COMMENT:
Legally stipulated examinations must be executed within the required time
intervals.
A safety-related check-up should take place using qualified service personnel at least once
per year. Whereby the following maintenance and check-up work should be carried out on
the occasion:
• Clean and lubricate high voltage plug on the tubes and on the transformer
