SO No. 1 Measurement Concepts and Error Analysis: 9 a, b Necessity of measurements – Block diagram of measurement system – Measuring techniques – Types of instruments – Standards – Instrument Characteristics: accuracy, precision, repeatability, threshold, sensitivity and span – Errors in measurement: gross errors, systematic errors, random errors – Statistical analysis of data: arithmetic mean, deviation, variance, probable error. Noise and its measurements. 2 Electronic Instruments for Measuring Basic Parameters: 8 a, k Amplified DC meter – AC voltmeter – True-RMS responding voltmeter – Electronic multimeter – Digital voltmeter – Vector voltmeter – Digital multimeters – Resolution in digital meters. 3 Measurements Using Bridges: 8 a, k Measurement of resistance using Kelvin double bridge and Wheatstone bridge – Measurement of inductance and capacitance using Maxwell inductance, Hay’s, Anderson and Schering bridges – Measurement of frequency by Wein bridge method. 4 Signal Generation and Measuring Instruments: 9 a, b Function generators – RF signal generators – Sweep generators – Frequency synthesizer – Wave analyzer – Harmonic distortion analyzer – Spectrum analyzer – Vector Network Analyser. Display devices: Analog and digital storage oscilloscope. Panel Display devices: LED and LCD. 5 Data Acquisition and Conversion: 9 a, b, k Elements of data acquisition system – Configurations – Channel type: Single channel, Multichannel – Digital data acquisition system: Sample and hold operation, S/H circuits, Sampling, Linearization, Non-linearization, Isolation amplifiers and Choice of filters. Interfacing transducers to electronics control and measuring system – Computer controlled test systems. 6. Guest Lecture on Contemporary Topics 2 j Total 45 Mode of Teaching and Learning: Flipped Class Room, Activity Based Teaching/Learning, Digital/Computer Based Models, wherever possible to augment lecture for practice/tutorial and minimum 2 hours lectures by industry experts on contemporary topics. Mode of Evaluation: The assessment and evaluation components may consist of unannounced open book examinations, quizzes, student’s portfolio generation and assessment, and any other innovative assessment practices followed by faculty, in addition to the Continuous Assessment Tests and Term End Examination.
