Rankine Cycle Activity

The document provides an activity sheet with problems involving the Rankine cycle for a power plant engineering course, including calculating cycle efficiency for dry and superheated conditions, drawing T-S diagrams, determining quality, work outputs, and mass flow rates. Students are asked to analyze Rankine cycles operating between different pressure levels and using saturated or superheated steam conditions to calculate various thermodynamic properties and cycle performance metrics.

Problems on Rankine cycle – Dry and Super-Heated problem

1. A simple rankine cycle operates between condenser pressure of 0.08 bar and boiler
pressure of 60 bar with dry saturated. Compute the cycle efficiency.
2. Refer the same problem 1 calculate the cycle efficiency if the vapour leaving the boiler is
400oC. For the both turbine efficiency if 88%
3. An engine working on Rankine cycle uses 10 bar, 450oC and the condenser pressure is
0.6 bar. Calculate
a) Draw the T-s Diagram of the Rankine cycle.
b) Quality of the steam.
c) Work output of the pump and turbine work.
d) Rankine efficiency.

Super-heated table 10 bar, 4500C

Saturated water 0.6 bar Tsat = 85.94 o C

vf u hf hg sf Sfg
0.001033 359.8 359.9 2653.5 1.145 6.387
4. A simple Rankine cycle works between the pressure of 28 bar and 0.06 bar. Calculate the
cycle efficiency, work ratio and SSC. Also find the mass flow rate of the steam if the net
power developed is 13995 kW.
