Kirklyn Wilson created a 30-minute lesson plan on natural resources for 1st grade science. The lesson plan introduced natural resources using an online resource and PowerPoint slides. Key vocabulary like minerals was discussed. Students were engaged and able to grasp an understanding of natural resources by the end of the lesson as evidenced by their participation in answering questions. For future lessons, Kirklyn may add a game for more entertainment.

Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught

Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow
Intern Name: Kirklyn Wilson

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your lesson?
Mrs. Callis helped me plan this lesson. She gave me a PowerPoint of this week's plans and told me to pick a day!
I basically just took over for that day for her.

2. What parts of the instructional plan worked as you anticipated?

The students were good listeners, engaged, participated, and answered questions while I was presenting. Once I
explained a concept most of them were able to grasp an understanding of it.

3. What, if any, adjustments needed to be made once you began?

No adjustments were needed, they remained engaged.

4. How well did you anticipate the materials needed? Did you realize you needed more or less as you taught
your lesson?
This lesson was an introductory lesson so I thought I had just the right amount of information. I anticipated the
materials correctly.

5. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
I thought this lesson was a success because I could tell they grasped a good understanding of the basics of
natural resources. By the end of my lesson, all of the students were raising their to answer my questions.

6. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I would maybe add a game for some more entertainment!

7. Any last comments/reflections about your lesson?

The lesson was a success due to the students wanting to learn.
