The document discusses protocols and ports used for networking. It lists common ports like FTP (21), Telnet (23), SMTP (25), DNS (53), and HTTP (80). It defines a protocol as a set of rules for formatting and processing data to allow computers to communicate. The document then lists 25 protocols like TCP, IP, UDP, POP, SMTP, and their uses for tasks like file transfer, email, and web browsing. It explains that ports provide standardized services and allow communication by associating protocols with numbered ports.

1. List all the ports you have seen in the video.

-File Transfer Protocol (21)
-Telnet (23)
-Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) (25)
-Domain Name System (DNS) (53)
-Hyper Transfer Protocol (HTTP) (80)
2. What is a protocol?
- It refers to a set of rules for formatting and processing data, this is a common language for
computers that may use for vastly different software and hardware although, its use to
communicate with each other anyhow.
3. List at least 25 Protocols and its use.

PROTOCOLS USES

 Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)  TCP is a popular communication

protocol which is used for
communicating over a network. It
divides any message into series of
packets that are sent from source to
destination and there it gets
reassembled at the destination.

 Internet Protocol (IP  IP is designed explicitly as addressing

protocol. It is mostly used with TCP.
The IP addresses in packets help in
routing them through different nodes
in a network until it reaches the
destination system. TCP/IP is the
most popular protocol connecting the
networks

 User Datagram Protocol (UDP)  UDP is a substitute communication

protocol to Transmission Control
Protocol implemented primarily for
creating loss-tolerating and low-
latency linking between different
applications.

 Post office Protocol (POP)  POP3 is designed for receiving

incoming E-mails

 Simple mail transport Protocol  SMTP is designed to send and

(SMTP) distribute outgoing E-Mail.

 File Transfer Protocol (FTP)  FTP allows users to transfer files from
one machine to another. Types of
files may include program files,
multimedia files, text files, and
documents, etc.

 Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP)  HTTP is designed for transferring a

hypertext among two or more
systems. HTML tags are used for
creating links. These links may be in
any form like text or images.

 Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure  HTTPS is abbreviated as Hyper Text

(HTTPS) Transfer Protocol Secure is a standard
protocol to secure the
communication among two
computers one using the browser and
other fetching data from web server

 Telnet  The system which requests for

connection is the local computer, and
the system which accepts the
connection is the remote computer.

 Gopher  Gopher is a collection of rules

implemented for searching, retrieving
as well as displaying documents from
isolated sites. Gopher also works on
the client/server principle.

 Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)  is a communication protocol used for

discovering the link layer address,
such as a MAC address, associated
with a given internet layer address,
typically an IPv4 address
 Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol  is a network management protocol
(DHCP) used to automate the process of
configuring devices on IP networks

 Internet Message Access Protocol  for accessing email or bulletin board

(IMAP4) messages from a (possibly shared)
mail server or service

 Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)  used to signal and control interactive

communication sessions. The uses for
such sessions include voice, video,
chat and instant messaging, as well as
interactive games and virtual reality.

 Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP)  network protocol used to deliver

streaming audio and video media
over the internet, thereby enabling
the Voice Over Internet Protocol
(VoIP).

 Resource Location Protocol (RLP)  performs a variety of tasks to others,

including self-generated services for
managing personal information such
as DNS, DHCP, and certain services of
computers connecting and
communicating over the IP network.

 Route Access Protocol (RAP)  that utilizes port 38 and is used for
distributing routing information at all
levels of the Internet.

 Layer Two Tunnelling Protocol (L2TP)  which are also called virtual lines,
provide cost-effective access for
remote users by allowing a corporate
network system to manage the IP
addresses assigned to its remote
users

 Point To Point Tunnelling Protocol  is a network protocol used to create

(PPTP) VPN tunnels between public
networks.

 Simple Network Management  networking protocol used for the

management and monitoring of
Protocol (SNMP) network-connected devices in
Internet Protocol networks.

 Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP)  provides basic file transfer function
with no user authentication.

 Open Systems Interconnection (OSI)  provides a standard for different

computer systems to be able to
communicate with each other

 Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP).  allows you to make voice calls using a
broadband Internet connection
instead of a regular (or analog) phone
line.

 Routing Information Protocol (RIP)  to configure the hosts as part of a RIP

network.

 User Diagram Protocol (USP)  a communications protocol that is

primarily used to establish low-
latency and loss-tolerating
connections between applications on
the internet.

4. What is the relationship between port and protocols?

- The relation between port and protocols is to provide a standard service in a system or
network and to be able to build a communication with each other.

5. Briefly, explain how does a device sends a message to another device over the internet.
- A device that intends to send a message to another device, it breaks the message down into
smaller pieces called packets. However, each packets have the sender’s address, destination
address, and etc., also the overall message to be sent with.
