Descriptive Text
1. Introduction

1.1Background:

English language education is a process where all skills of English (listening, reading, writing, speaking
and grammar) are interconnected. In improving learners writing proficiency, all language skills must be
involved . English rules are very complicated because some language features such as sentence
construction, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and so forth in their mother tongue are different from those
of the target language. These make them difficult to express themselves in a clear, correct and
comprehensible manner of writing.

There are verb tense, omit a word, spelling, add a word, capitalization, word choice, word order, singular
– plural, word form .This type of errors has interrelationship will one another. Then, the researcher
described the errors because it more clear types of student’s error in descriptive writing text.

Research Questions

1. What are the types of grammatical


2. What are the dominant errors committed by the student in their descriptive text?
3. What are the causes of errors made by the student in their descriptive text?

OBJECTIVE OF RESEARCH

To explain grammatical errors made by the students in their descriptive text?

2. Literature Review

Rose (2007) classifies the aspects of writing into five aspects. They are the genre, register,

discourse, grammar, and graphic features. She explains that grammar as the fourth aspect covers

topic sentences, paragraph unity, transitions and cohesion, sentence construction, verb

agreement, tense, word orders, articles, pronouns, and preposition.

Thornbury (2004, p.1) states that ‘grammar is partly the study of what forms (or

structures) are possible in a language’. Grammar is concerned with analysis of the sentence

which is describe the rules how language sentences are formed.


Research Methodology:

Theoretical Framework This researcher will use qualitative research with

descriptive method. The researcher will focuse on providing description of phenomena occurred

naturally in the field without doing an experiment or treatment for the students in the

classroom .

Analysis

An analysis will be based on the data collected from students' writing. The researcher will classified

the students' grammatical errors in writing descriptive text. The researcher will be focused on

analyzing the data to identify the types of grammatical errors, the dominant of errors, and the

causes of errors madeby the student in their descriptive text based on surface strategy taxonomy :

omission, addition, misordering, and misformation to analyze grammatical errors.

Conclusion and finding

The researcher will find out causes of errors made by students in writing descriptive text after

collection of data from students.
