1. Broad Area of Work
Glass fibre reinforced polymer composites find widespread applications
these days in hostile environment due to their several advantages like high wear
resistance, strength-to-weight ratio, and low cost. The broad range of our project
include moulding, analysis, and comparison of the analysis of two different
GSM of glass fibre mat. The following are the sequence of operations for the
successful completion of dissertation
1. Moulding of glass fibre mat with resin
2. Analysis of the specimen
3. Comparison of specimen based on analysis results
2. Background
Polymers have generated wide interest in various engineering fields
including tribological applications, in view of their good strength and low
density as compared to monolithic metal alloys. Being lightweight they are the
most suitable materials for weight sensitive uses, but their high cost sometimes
becomes the limiting factor for commercial applications.
Use of low cost, easily available fillers is therefore useful to bring down
the cost of component. Study of the effect of such filler addition is necessary to
ensure that the mechanical properties of the composites are not affected
adversely by such addition.
3. Objectives
The objectives of the project are outlined below.
1. Fabrication of glass fibre reinforced epoxy-based hybrid composite
with/without filler content.
2. Evaluation of mechanical properties (tensile strength, flexural,
compression strength etc.)
3. Study of strength of the nano composite material to find the effective
functionalization of epoxy resin and fibre reinforced plastic.
4. Scope of work
1. The basic aim of the present work is to develop and characterize a new
class of composites with a polymer called epoxy-filler as the matrix and
glass fibre as the reinforcing material.
2. Their physical and mechanical characterization is done.
3. Mechanical strength of this new class of composites is investigated in this
project work.
4. This work is expected to introduce a new class of functional polymer
composites suitable for tribological applications.

8. Remarks of the Supervisor

The study and project seem very promising. The student had covered all
the relevant literature review. The project is holding the current domain of
research and justified the level of dissertation for master studies. The outcome
covered by the project seems very interesting and include all the state of arts in
today’s era of information science. The project also includes the user study on
the working prototype. This activity completely validates the research project.
This project also contains the prospect of publication in future.
