B Air Supply Compressor:

Air Compressor is capable of providing a pressure of 90 psig at the

blasting nozzle side. **Note: The following are guidelines to ensure
satisfactory performance:
A. Compressor size is the next larger size compressor available
for the nozzle as shown in the following table:
(SSPC Chapter 2.4, Sec. III A, Table 1)
AIR CONSUMPTION
Nozzle Orifice CFM Reqd @ 100 psi Abrasive
Consumption
3/16" 60 cfm 260 lbs/hr
1/4" 105 cfm 490 lns/hr
5/16" 160 cfm 812 lbs/hr
B1 SAES-H-001,
3/8" 232 cfm 1152 lbs/hr
Para. 6.5.2

1/2" 412 cfm 2024 lbs/hr
5/8" 580 cfm 2518 lbs/hr
3/4" 840 cfm 3174 lbs/hr
B. Air supply hose should be 3 or 4 times the nozzle orifice.
(Note: Internal Diameter of coupling connection should be
considered if installed on the inner diameter of the
hose - SSPC Chapter 2.4, Sec. III B).
C. Outlet connections and valves from air supply compressor are
replaced with 1-1/2' or 2" outlets to match the main air supply
hose - SSPC Chapter 2.4, Sec. III B.

Compressed air for blasting is not contaminated with oil, moisture or other
contaminants. This is determined by performing a blotter test as follows:
a) Attach a piece of blotter or absorbent paper to a clip board.
b) Operate the blast system for at least 5 minutes, then allow air
SAES-H-001,
B2 flow out of the blasting nozzle at a nozzle pressure of 50 psig.
Para. 6.5.1
c) Hold the paper approx. 45-60 cm in front of the nozzle for at
least 1 minute.
d) Satisfactory results shall be no water or oil contamination on
the blotter.

Compressor, blasting pot, blasting nozzles shall be properly earthed

(grounded). Blast Nozzle shall be electrically ground using grounding wire
SAES-H-102,
AWG 4 or larger.
B3 Para. 4.4.1.6 &
Note: Blasting hose, blast nozzle, blast machine & material to be blasted
4.4.2.2
shall be bonded & grounded to a resistance of 1 mega ohm or less. (GI-
