Teenage pregnancy is a significant issue in the Philippines and has many negative consequences. According to surveys, the Philippines has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy among ASEAN countries. When girls get pregnant during their teenage years, it often forces them to drop out of school and can negatively impact their future life opportunities. There are several factors that contribute to the rise in teenage pregnancy, including a lack of parental guidance about sex education, lack of knowledge around safe sex practices, and exploitation by older men. Addressing these issues through improved sex education and guidance is needed to reduce teenage pregnancy rates and help ensure young people can pursue education and achieve better life outcomes.

“Teen pregnancy and its consequences on the further life of the girls”
The rising incidence of adolescent pregnancies in the Philippines as a result of the youth's
acceptance of premarital sex should be stopped since it leads to pregnant women dropping out of
school, fear due to a lack of understanding, and a society with a constantly expanding population growth
rate. Every year, an estimated 21 million females aged 15–19 years in developing countries become
pregnant, with around 12 million giving birth. At least 777,000 births occur in developing countries to
adolescent girls less than 15 years.

Teenage pregnancy is one of the issues that the Philippines is now dealing with. The girl, her child,
her parents and relatives, as well as the entire nation, are all victims of adolescent pregnancy. According
to a United Nations Population Fund survey conducted in 2011, the Philippines ranked first among
ASEAN countries with the highest prevalence of teenage pregnancy. According to Ugochi Daniels of the
United Nations Population Fund Agency (UNPFA), the rising incidence of teenage pregnancies could
jeopardize the country's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). According to an interview conducted
on November 2, 2016, Doctor Heine Baldjay-Lomugdang, Belison Municipal Health Officer, said that the
reasons why teenage pregnancy is on the rise these days are a lack of parental guidance, adolescent
sexual behavior, a lack of knowledge about safe sex, exploitation by older men, and socio-economic
factors.

The first and most important factor is a lack of parental direction, as most parents want to keep
their children from discussing sex. They may give their children erroneous information about sex and
discourage them from participating in any helpful sex talk. Some adolescent moms are not well-
informed about sex before becoming pregnant, which leads to a breakdown in communication between
parents and children. First, peer pressure is a crucial element in many adolescent sexual behaviors, and
it is one of the main factors that pushes teenage boys and girls to engage in sexual activities. Teen
pregnancy is also influenced by early dating, which can begin as early as 12 years old. Second, there is a
lack of understanding about safe sex. The majority of teens are uninformed about healthy sexual
behavior. They are unlikely to have access to traditional means of contraception. The main reason for
this is that they are either too embarrassed or afraid to look into it. Third, elderly males are exploited.
Another important element that contributes to teenage pregnancy is peer pressure. Girls who date
older women have a higher chance of becoming pregnant before they reach adulthood. Rape, sexual
exploitation, and other forms of violence are also common, leading to unplanned pregnancies among
adolescent females.

Finally, every adolescent should be aware of the impacts and repercussions of risky activities that
can lead to a pregnancy in adolescence. As previously said, a pregnant teenager may face a variety of
issues that will have an impact on family connections and society. However, teenage pregnancy is
harmful to young people. As a result, the rising number of pregnant young females should be halted due
to the harmful consequences. To eliminate it, everyone must understand what it is and how it will
influence their lives. "The youth are the hope of the nation," stated national hero Jose P. Rizal, and the
youth must give hope to the nation rather than damage to one's own future.
