3.0 Responsibilities 6
An electrical continuity test is the checking of an electric circuit to see if the current flows
throughout the circuit. Continuity test is performed by applying a small voltage to one
end of the circuit and measuring on the other end.
The most common and basic way of performing a continuity test is with the help of a
resistance tester (any simple multi-meter with this function will do). This is because the
resistance of conductors between the two ends is usually very small (less than 100 ohm).
It should be noted that the continuity and insulation resistance tests for lighting circuit
described below can only be applied to a 'loop-in' wiring system only.
When we talk about Continuity Testing within the Inspection and Testing Procedure then
we apply the same principle, but with a bit more detail.
3.2 Test method 2 (CPC terminated at the switch panel and using the phase conductor as a
return lead)
3.2.1 Connect the phase conductor (phase wire) to the CPC conductor (earth wire) at the
switch panel.
3.2.2 Test between the phase and earth of the circuit at the DB.
3.2.3 Record the test result obtained.
3.2.4 The readings should be compared with the "Resistance of copper conductors" table
for a particular length and size.
4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Manager
Responsible for accomplishing the stated project objectives which include creating
clear and attainable project objectives, building the project requirements, and
managing the constraints of the project management triangle, which is cost, time,
scope, and quality .The Project Manager shall be responsible for ensuring that the
Project Quality Plan and the Inspection and Testing procedures, Continuity And
Insulation Resistance Testing Method Statement, HSE safety, and all contractual
documentation are maintained up to date and accessible to all parties.
M & E Coordinator
Responsible for overall construction activities ensuring that all Insulation Continuity
And Insulation Resistance Testing Method Statement, quality, and safety procedures
shall be implemented and required approval permits shall be obtained.
Safety And Health Officer (SHO) generally plan, coordinate and implement issues and
directives within the organization. Ensures safe environmental working conditions for
all employees. Ensure enforcement of safety procedures in accordance as per
approved HSE Plan. Will be closely monitoring the site engineer’s strict implementation
of the Continuity And Insulation Resistance Testing Method Statement, the use of
proper tools and equipment to maintain safety, certifications of equipment and their
adherence to safety regulations, reporting of any unsafe work or stopping work that
does not comply with HSE procedures.
