After observing Grade 5 students, I wrote key answers for the activities they were doing. Then, I
checked in.
Then, after we finished our observation, I went back to the faculty room and checked the
students’ test papers while waiting for our lunch break. It was truly a wonderful experience as I felt like I
was really a teacher already while using our own desks in our own faculty cubicles.
After lunch break, we went back to Virgen Milagrosa Children Learning Center, but since the
school is implementing a hybrid set of learning modality where children will learn synchronously in the
morning and asynchronously in the afternoon, most of the students were gone home already. not
wanting to waste time, me and my co-pre-service teachers readied the materials for our bulletin board.
Cutting the pictures wasn’t easy, but we had to endure it to make a good board display for our school.
We were called into the faculty room after we prepared the cutouts for our board display. It was
a touching moment as we were introduced by the Principal to the VMCLC Faculty Teachers and Staff,
feeling as if we were really a part of the VMCLC Family.
After the meeting with the VMCLC Faculty and Staff, we assisted students who weren’t able to
take their exams last week. I was assigned to a grade 3 student whose name was April Lalyn Melchor.
Aside from guiding her in her exam, I taught her how to read and explained every item in her exam test
paper so she can answer the questions correctly. It was a fun experience as she was really engaging in
our discussions, and she easily caught up with the things I was teaching her.
Finally, it was time for us to wait for the end of our day, when we were called into the faculty
room, and we witnessed how the Principal bonded with the teachers and us pre-service teachers. Being
able to bond with the school head was so much fun, and I even remember hearing that I should also
introduce my partner to them, in case I need an excuse to take the day off and also, to meet the lucky
one and know them properly. Small things like that made my day so much fun as I was able to bond with
them and know them better.
Today was a successful observation day, and not only did I fulfill my goals and tasks of observing
VMCLC students, but I also felt as if my journey as an educator had already begun. This, of course, is all
thanks to Ms. Diana May Lomboy, my critic teacher, who never ceased to inspire me and help me with
this observation. Had it not been for her, the success of today wouldn’t be possible. And of course, to
Dr. Benjie E. Rubrica, Principal of VMCLC, who accepted us pre-service teachers with a warm and
wholehearted welcome in their school.
As a future educator, observing a learning environment should by understanding the different
characteristics of young learners. This gives a way for us teachers to truly understand our students. In
my first day at VMCLC, I can say that, “There is never a happier feeling as a teacher than to see students
smiling with the hope of learning more, and discovering the endless possibilities of this world.” I have
witnessed how the students of VMCLC are excited to learn, and even though this is my first day, I
instantly felt thrilled to see students – full of hope to learn, full of inspiration to continue.
