Assignment 2 - SDOF Numberical Analysis and MDOF PDF

This document outlines an assignment for a course on earthquake and wind engineering. It contains three questions. Question 1 involves performing a time-history analysis of a single-degree-of-freedom structure subjected to ground motion and providing the results. Question 2 involves analyzing the free vibration of a two-degree-of-freedom shear building structure. Question 3 involves dynamic analysis of the same shear building subjected to earthquake ground motion using response spectrum analysis.

Assignment No. 2 – SDOF Numerical Analysis and MDOF Dynamics (100%)

Question 1: (30%)
Perform a time-history analysis of a SDOF structure shown in Figure 1.1 using either Duhamel
integral with the trapezoidal rule or the step-by-step algorithm based on the linear acceleration
method. The structure is subjected to a ground motion shown in Table 1.1. The structure has mass
m = 30× 10! kg, stiffness k = 1500× 10" N/m, and damping ratio 𝜉 = 0.03.

Note: Perform the numerical analysis in Excel, and provide a print-out of your spreadsheet to
show it works properly. For this print-out, include a u(t) response plot along with the first 30 lines
of the solution (to t = 0.3s)
