Webpage Assignment Name: _______________________

Based on the HTML coding you were taught in class, and your personal knowledge in this area, your
assignment is to create a series of web pages (a website). This assignment may require you to do
research to find HTML coding that was not covered in your handouts.

This is an individual project. You may not work with a partner!

This website is all about you. Consider these topics:

● Your biography (share with readers about your family, your background, where you’ve lived, your
pets, your friends, your schooling before TAS, etc.).
● Your hobbies.
● Sports that you have been involved in.
● Things in the community that you like to do (theatre, dance, horseback riding, etc.).
● Your favourite movies, books, video games or musical groups.

Your website must contain the following components:

❏ Contains at least 3 web pages
❏ Displays at least 4 pictures (.jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp formats are supported)
❏ Provides a link to an external site, using an image as part of your link.
❏ A navigation link to each of your pages located on each of your pages (for example, page 3
should link to both page 1 and page 2).
❏ Include a “mailto” link to your e-mail address.
❏ Show an animated graphic (.gif). There are many sites on the Internet that contain animated
graphics. Use a GOOGLE search to locate them.
❏ All pictures on your website are saved in the same folder as your .HTML files.
❏ Provide your finished work on a USB key, or e-mail it to your teacher.

Keep in mind that graphics (especially animated graphics) will take much longer to load than a page
without graphics for users that don’t have high speed internet connections. Animated graphics can also
be visually distracting if you overdo it. Find a balance between “too few” and “too many”.

In the process of your design, you may wish to look at, and incorporate, some source code from other
pages which have been posted to the web. Your webpage will contain no more than 10% of source code
from other pages. If you decide to use source code from another page, you must document the source
(the website title and HTML address) on an extra “citation page” of your website.

There is no penalty to using knowledge that is beyond what you have learned in this course, except that
you MUST USE HTML, not an HTML editor.

For your own protection, do not place any personal identifying information on the Internet! This includes
your last name, address, phone number, date of birth, etc. You also should not post any images of
yourself without your parents’ permission.

You will be given class time to work on your assignment. You are expected to complete the page at
school during the time allowed, so your teacher can monitor your progress and help you solve any coding
issues.
