Lesson Plan 3

This document provides a detailed lesson plan for a 7th grade mathematics class on polygons. The lesson plan aims to teach students to (1) define polygons, (2) identify different polygons based on their number of sides and angles, and (3) actively participate in class discussions at a 95% mastery level. The lesson includes preliminary activities, presentation of objectives, interactive activities to identify polygons, analysis and abstraction portions, application through drawing polygons, and assessment.

A Detailed Lesson Plan for Mathematics 7

Teacher: Rica Montero S.Y.: __2022-2023___

Date: __________________ Intended Learners: ___Grade 7____

Content Standards: The learners demonstrate the key concept of Geometry of

shapes and sizes and Geometric rotations.
Performance Standards: The learner is able to create models of plane figures and
formulate, and solve accurately authentic problems involving sides and angles of a
polygon.
Learning Competency: Illustrate polygons: (a) convexity, (b) angles, and (c) sides
Code: M7GE-IIIe-2

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. define Polygon;
b. identify the different kinds of Polygon according to the number of sides
and angles and;
c. actively participate in the class discussion with 95% mastery level.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Different kinds of Polygon

Materials: visual Aids (Manila paper, cu out shapes, cartolina)

References: Learners module 7 Mathematics

III. Preliminary Activities (10 minutes)

Teacher’s Activity

“Class, please all stand up for our prayer. Arson, lead the
prayer.”

 Greetings and Classroom Management

Good Morning class. Before you take your seats, kindly pick
up the pieces of paper, and if your done please be seated.

 Checking Attendance
RICA:
Secretary of the class, Rica may I know who is absent
for today?

Thank you Rica.

 Review

What was our topic last meeting?

Very good! Now any questions? None Miss!

If none we will proceed to our new topic, but before

that we will have an activity first.

 Presentation of the Lesson Objectives

So, now let’s proceed to our next lesson for today.

Thank you! maste

I have here a figure that will help you formulate the

definition of a polygon.
I will paste on the board.
Class take a look at figure on the board and study
about it.

What have you notice in the two group.

May I call Ruth to answer the question? RUTH: The

polygons and

Very good! Now what do you think our topic this

morning?

Yes bea. BEA: It is all

Very good!!

 Activity: Count Me! (5 minutes)

Let’s have an activity first. I call it count me.

Instruction:
 I will group into 5.
Materials:
 Provided answer sheet per group
 Marker

Please go to tour group and create a circle. You only have 5

minutes to do this activity.

side? Charlene?

And as have you notice, how many minimum number

of line segment does a polygons have? Daf?
CHIN: Polyg

Very good! Now based on what you have discovered
how would you define polygons? Chin?
Very good! Do you know that polygons are named
according to the number of its sides and angles?

Okay! Let’s take a look to this figure.

Can anyone tell me what make a triangle different

from other shape? Marco?

Very good! In addition we call this as triangle from
the prefix “tri means 3”. It is clear??

Let’s proceed with the next figure. Can we consider ALL STUDEN
this figure as polygon is this?

KEYC: Quad
Very good.
What polygon do you think is this? Kayc?
NAYS: It has

What can you say about it? Nays?

ALL STUDEN
Very good.
Also, we can name this polygon as quadrilateral
because of its prefix “quad” means four.

Understand?

Now, let’s proceed to the next figure.

Can we consider this as a polygon?
ALL STUDEN

MARK:It is c

Now, what polygon is this?

CARLO: It h

What can you tell me about it?

Very good!

We call this polygon as pentagon because of its prefix

ALL STUDEN
“pent” means 5.

None Miss.
Again what does “pent” means?

Very good, any questions?

Excellent, class!

I know that you’ll find it easy to name and identify

the different types of polygons.
Now in addition, always remember that a polygons
that having equal angle is called regular polygon, and
to those who have not is called Irregular polygons.

Is it clear?

 Abstraction (20 minutes)

Based from our discussion, what is a polygon? Yes,
Marielle ? MARIELLE:

Very good! GRACE: The

quadrilateral,
and decagon
Now, what were the different types of polygon that we
already discuss? Yes Grace?

Very good.
MAR: It is a
Now, what type of polygon that having 3 sides and 3
angles. Yes Mark?

Very good.
SHEILA: Fro
How can you say that a triangle has sides and 3 angles?
Sheila?

Very good.

Do you have any questions? None miss.

 Application (5 minutes)
Instruction: get 1 whole sheet of paper then draw the
following regular polygon inside each box.

1. A regular polygon with 10 side.

2. A regular polygon with 6 sides.
3. A regular polygon with 4 sides.
4. A regular polygon with 3 sides

4.
Well Done, class! Most of you got all of the items correct.

IV. Assessment (10 minutes)

Direction: complete the tables below. 1 point each.
