AGRICULTURAL INCENTIVES AND PROTECTION

AGRICULTURAL INCENTIVES

The Agricultural Incentives Programmed (AIP) is tangible fiscal and non-fiscal package
of rebates and exemption on goods and services offered to the farming community. It serves as
an indication of Ministry’s commitment to the fostering of growth and development of various
agricultural sub-sectors in a liberalized trading environment. It seeks to encourage farmers to
increase production, promote good agricultural practices as well as promote youth in agriculture.

Incentives are a great way to ensure that your employees stay motivated to do their job to
the best of their ability. By offering something that can achieve if they hit a certain target or
achieve something, they have something to works towards.

THE 3 TYPES OF INCENTIVES

 Economic Incentives- Material gain/loss (Doing what’s best for us)

 Social Incentives- Reputation gain/loss (Being seen to do the right thing)
 Moral Incentives- conscience gain/loss (Doing/not doing the right thing)

5 COMMON TYPES OF ECONOMIC INCENTIVES

TAX INCENTIVES
Also called “tax benefits” are reduction in tax that the government makes in order to
encourage spending on certain items or activities.

FINANCIAL INCENTIVES
A monetary benefit offered to encourage behavior or actions which otherwise would not
take place.

SUBSIDIES
Is a form of financial aid or support extended to an economic sector generally with the
aim of promoting economic and social policy.

TAX REBATES
Is a payment to the taxpayer due to the taxpayer having paid more tax than they owed.
NEGATIVE INCENTIVES
You won’t get a bonus unless you meet your target goal

AGRICULTURAL PROTECTION

The Philippines agricultural policy focuses on the food security and poverty alleviation
through a guarantee supply of staple food (rice) at affordable prices. Ones considers any
particular agricultural product, a protective stimulus to its production in any one country by
increasing supplies relatively to the demand for that product will tend to depress the world
market for that product.

TYPES OF PROTECTIONISM

TARIFFS
The taxes or duties imposed on imports are known as tariffs

QOUTAS
It is a transfer of money from the government to an entity. It leads to a fall in the price of
the subsidized product.

STANDARDIZATION
It is the process of developing, promoting and possibly mandating standard-based and
compatible technologies and processes within a given industry.
