In this first magazine front cover I am going to analyse, we can see Mohammed Salah being

in the centre of the page and being the main image of the magazine, this is conventional to
the sports magazines because he is one of the biggest names in World Football and will be
eye-catching to the audience. There is also a direct address to make him look serious and to
grab the audience’s attention.

This will be targeted to football fans across the world and especially Liverpool and Egypt
fans because that is who Salah represents at both club and country level. We can also see
the barcode on the front cover because businesses pay big money to have their business
published at the back so they don’t really need some barcode being at the back as well.

The ‘FourFourTwo’ at the top of the page is called the masthead because it is the title of the
magazine and it is hidden behind Salah’s head because it is a well-known magazine and
they would be able to make out who published the magazine seeing ‘Four’ and ‘Two’ and it
will help the new fans as well to work out who made the magazine. There are also cover
lines in the magazine that explain some other information about the feature articles and it is
usually a handful of words to describe the article

The use of the crown is quite clever with it being drawn on and will be eye-catching to fans
because Salah is known as the ‘Egyptian King’ and it will grab the attention of everyone who
is fans of Salah and football fans in general. Also, the phrase Mohammed Salah is the
second biggest font on the page because it is who the main star image in the magazine is so
people who don’t know him get an idea of who it is. There is also a couple of other content
on the front cover at the bottom and top with Ederson and Son, this is to give a bit more
detail on what to find in the magazine with a little phrasing saying what is on the article that
they have written. There are a lot of tag lines also on the front cover where we see more
things that are on the magazine and to look at all of them. At the top left of the page, there is
a buzzword that says ‘Exclusive Interview’ This means that you will only find it at one
particular place and nowhere else.

In the contents page of the 4-4-2 magazine, we can see so many pictures of the different
subjects that they are talking about such as Jose Mourinho, Sadio Mane, Iniesta and Rio
Ferdinard with the addition of the page that you can find them at. They are positioned
together so you can see all the images at once and can see what you will be reading in the
magazine. They are also visually interesting with the relevant mise en scene that you can
see and it is conventional to the genre of football.

You can also see a massive heading saying ‘Contents’ to highlight that it is the contents
page and so people can see what it is. It is also split up into different layouts of articles with
there being upfront, the mixer, three feature sections and a players lounge where there are
questions that they give the fans which they will get marked on in the next edition, this is to
give more information about the article and it is in a simple and plain font. There are also
page numbers at the start of different sections so the audience can go straight to the page
and what they want to read.
The big pictures of Jose Mourinho and Iniesta indicate that they are the most important
articles on the whole magazine and with the page numbers being in big bold writing, it
makes it stand out from the rest so you know exactly where to go in the magazine to see the
featured article. In three of the pictures of Ferdinard, Sutton and Bright, there are a couple of
words to describe what the article is about so the audience gets a feel of what the article is
about and with ‘Rio’s Truth’ it gets you a bit off the seat and wonder what the article is about.
The image of the front cover is also on the contents page because it highlights the main star
image of Jose Mourino and it is conventional on the left-hand side.

The repetition of the masthead is normally at the top of the page in small words as they dont
want to take up the full page and to give the reader a better publication on what they are
reading. I have this on mine but at the top right and it is clear and stands out from the rest.

On the first feature article of a double page spread your eyes are immediately drawn to the
right-hand side of the page where you can see Iniesta in some restaurant in front of some
vending machines wearing a grey t-shirt, black pants and a watch on his left wrist. This is
also the colour scheme that they have chosen for the writing which is conventional to the
genre. This gives us the impression that he is cool and he’s a serious person and he has a
sub-culture of a dad culture who wears these types of clothes.

We can also direct address to engage the audience and the mise en scene will be visually
interesting and signify the content of the article. We can also see the headline of the double
page spread and it’s conventionally the largest text on the page and indicates the purpose of
the article. Can often be a “Pull Quote” to intrigue the audience and it is designed to grab the
audience's attention. There is also a byline underneath the headline to give credit to the
writer and photographer who was at the shoot. It is usually positioned conventionally near
the headline or at the end of the article so people can see who wrote the article and get the
credibility it deserves.

The column layout is split up into different sections with the questions being in bold and the
answer in normal font to break up the sections and so you know which one is which. It is
used to create structure and order to allow the audience to navigate around the page easily.
The main body text of the page makes up the article and is the smallest font so you can fit all
the answers in a simple style.

Next to Iniesta, there are a couple of facts about who he played for with the year and this
will be targeted towards the younger audience to understand who he played for and how
long he played for that respective club. The page number with additional information is
underneath the questions and answers and it is small in the outer corner, it consists of the
page number and sometimes the masthead with also issue information.
