1. Prove that a Type-1 system has no steady state error for step input while the steady state
error for ramp input decreases for increase of Velocity Error Constant
2. Consider a unity step input to a 2nd order system. If the un-damped natural frequency 𝜔𝑛 is
4 rad/sec and the damping ratio 𝜁 is 0.75. The peak overshoot (%𝑀𝑝 ) in a unit feedback
control system is specified to be within 20% to 40% range.
i. Sketch the area in the s-plane in which dominant roots of the systems
characteristic equation must lie. This system has a settling time 𝑡𝑠 = 0.85 sec.
ii. Determine the smallest value of third root such that dominance of the
complex roots corresponding to part (i) is preserved. Further, Determine the
open loop transfer function of the system if 𝑀𝑝 = 50%.
3. The open loop transfer function in a unity feedback control system, is given by

Find the steady state error of the system using generalized error constants when
subjected to an input signal given by 𝑟(𝑡) = 1 + 4𝑡 + 3𝑡 2 .
5. A second-order system has a damping factor of 0.3 (underdamped system) and an un-
damped natural frequency of 10 rad s-1. Keeping the damping factor the same, if the un-
damped natural frequency is changed to 20 rad s-1, locate the new poles of the system?
What can you say about the response of the new system?
6. Find the stability of the control system having characteristic equations using Routh-Hurwitz
