CIRCULAR NOTE

3rd G20 ETWG MEETING


MUMBAI (15 – 17 MAY 2023)
INTRODUCTION

The Indian G20 Presidency warmly welcomes all the delegates to the third Energy Transition
Working Group (ETWG) meeting of the G20 which will take place in-person in the city of
Mumbai from 15th to 17th of May, 2023.

Mumbai, named after the patron deity the Mother Goddess Mumba Devi, worshiped by the
earliest inhabitants the Kolis., is the capital of the state of Maharashtra in India. It is situated on
the Konkan Coast on the west coast of India. It is surrounded on three sides by water, the open
Arabian Sea to the West and South and Thane creek to the East. To the North it is bordered by
Mumbai (Suburban) District.

The city is served by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport providing both domestic
and international flights. Mumbai is the financial, commercial, and the entertainment capital of
India. It is also one of the world's top ten centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow,
generating 6.16% of India's GDP, and accounting for 25% of industrial output, 70% of maritime
trade in India, and 70% of capital transactions to India's economy.

The city houses important financial institutions and the corporate headquarters of numerous
Indian companies and multinational corporations. It is also home to some of India's premier
scientific and nuclear institutes. The city is also home to Bollywood and Marathi cinema
industries. Mumbai's business opportunities attract migrants from all over India.

Common languages spoken in Mumbai include Marathi, Hindi, Guajarati, English and Urdu

Mumbai has a tropical climate, specifically a tropical wet and dry climate with a dry period
extending from October to May and a wet period peaking in June. The temperatures in Mumbai
in May are moderately high with an average low of 27°C and an average high of up to 34°Cwith
a few rainy days.

Delegations are requested to arrive latest by the forenoon of 1 March, 2023, and stay until 3
March, 2023.
