Math LP

The document outlines a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class on speed, distance, and time, including reviewing previous lessons, presenting new concepts and examples, and guided practice problems. It discusses the relationships between speed, distance, and time and how to calculate one given values for the other two. Example problems are provided to demonstrate how to identify the known values and calculate for the missing value using the appropriate formula.

Teacher’s Activity Pupils’ Activity
A. Review of A. Preliminary Activities
Previous/Presenting Prayer
New Lessons Who’s assigned to lead the prayer today? You may
start now.
(Do the opening prayer)

Greeting
Good morning children?

Good morning ma’am,

good morning
classmates, it’s nice to
see you today.
Take your seats.

Checking of Attendance
I’ll check your attendance based on your seating

arrangement. Those who are not in their assigned
seats will be considered absent.

Drill
Recite multiplication tables with exercise

Review of previous lessons (Recite multiplication

Okay, who still remembers what we have discuss tables with exercise)
last meeting?
What was our topic all about?

Right, you tried to solve the given expression and We find the value of x.
find the value of x. Now we have another lesson to
discuss. Are you all ready to listen?

Yes ma’am.

B. Establishing the Motivation

Purpose of the Lesson
Okay, who among you loves to travel?
Me ma’am
What is the farthest place that you have been in
your life?How long was your travel before you
reach your destination? How many hours did you
travel? (The children will share
their experience in
travelling.)
Wow! you have an awesome experience.
Okay, why do you think I ask you about travelling?
What do you think will be our topic for today?
It’s about travel. How
far and how fast.
Yes! Our lesson for today is about measuring speed,
distance, and time.

C. Presenting New Let’s have an example.

Examples/Instances
Joven is driving his car, he travels a distance of
50km in 2 hrs. What speed did he travel at?
How do we find the speed? The formula is

speed = distance x time

For us to get the speed, we just need to multiply the

2
distance and the time. In our problem, the given
distance is 50km and the time is 2 hours, let’s
substitute it to our formula;

Speed = distance x time

Speed = 50km x 2h

Speed = 100km/h

so, the answer is he travel at a speed of 100km/h.

Yes ma’am.
Do you understand how to get the speed?

D. Discussing New Guided Practice

Concepts and
Presenting New Skills Now as you can see, we have mentioned the speed,
S#1 distance, and time. What is the relationship of these
three?
The relationship between speed, distance and time
can be expressed in the ff. equations:

Distance = Speed x Time
Time = Distance/Speed
Speed= Distance/Time

An easy way to remember the distance, speed and

time equations is to put the letters into a triangle.
The triangles will help you remember these 3 rules:

Write this on your notebook.

Now, how will we find what is being asked? We must
know how to identify what is given, is it time, speed, or
distance? How can we recognize it? We can recognize
it through their units. Refer to the
table on your book.

Distance Time Speed Abbreviation

miles hour miles per hour Mph
kilometers per
kilometers hours Km/h or kph
hour
meters per
meters seconds m/s
second
f.p.s or ft. per
feet seconds feet per second
sec
centimeters per
centimeters seconds Cm/sec or cm/s
second

What units are used in distance?

Miles, kilometers,
meters, feet,

3
centimeters

Okay remember those units. If you see that units in

a problem, it is automatically considered as the
distance. How about in time? What units are
commonly used? Hours, seconds

Right! We all know that those units are used for

declaring time, as well as minutes. How about Miles per hour,
identifying speed, what units we are going to look? kilometers per hour,
meters per second,
feet per second,
centimeters per
second.

Okay very good. Those are the units that we might

see in the problem that will help us in finding the
given and also the problem being asked. In the last
part or column of the table, you can see the
abbreviation of units that are used in every problem.
Keep that in mind children.

Another clue is, the speed is the combined unit of

distance and time used in a problem.
Yes ma’am.

Do you understand?

Let’s have another example.

If a car travels 100 kilometers in 2 hours, find a

speed.
Speed =
What is the formula of speed? distance/time

Okay, speed = distance/time

Speed = 100km/2h
Speed = 50kph

So, the speed of a car is 50kph. Yes ma’am

Do you understand how to calculate speed and
distance?

Very good. Now for the time, we can get that just
the same on how we calculate the speed.

4
E. Making
Generalizations How to Calculate Speed?
The Speed can be calculated by finding how much
distance traveled by the body and in how much time
with respect to the point of observation. Once we find
these two things (distance traveled and time taken to
travel the distance), we can divide the distance traveled
by the time taken to obtain the speed of the object using
formula,
Speed = distance/ time
Where
d = distance traveled
t = time taken.
How to calculate distance?
To find distance, speed is beside time, so distance is
speed multiplied by time.
Distance = speed/time
How to calculate time?
To find time, use the formula:
Time = distance / speed

F. Finding Practical Now let’s have a group activity. Group yourselves

Application of into three. The speed group, the distance group, and
Concepts the time group.

Lesson)

G. Evaluating Evaluation
Learning
Okay back to your proper seats. Get a paper and
answer these problems. Pay attention to the
instructions.
