CHAPTER 8 – FORWARD BLOC AND THE INA

Syllabus

• Forward Bloc (objectives) and INA (Objectives and contribution of Subhas Chandra
Bose)

❖ Forward Bloc: It was formed on 3rd May, 1939, by Subhash Chandra Bose.
1) Immediate Objective of Forward Bloc: The immediate objective of the
Forward Bloc was liberation of India with the support of the workers,
youth, peasants and other organisations.
2) Other Objectives of Forward Bloc: After the attainment of independence,
the Forward Bloc would establish a Socialist State through: -
a) Abolition of the Zamindari system.
b) Introduction of a new monetary and credit system.

❖ Indian National Army:


1) Objectives of the INA: The main objectives of the INA were as follows:
▪ To organise an armed revolution and to fight the British army with
modern arms.
▪ Total mobilisation of Indian manpower and money for a total war.

❖ Contribution of Subhas Chandra Bose:


1) Subhash Chandra Bose laid the foundation of the Forward Bloc.
2) Later he led the freedom struggle outside India as a Supreme Commander
of Indian National Army (INA).
3) INA inspired many uprisings in the armed forces of the country and the
heroic deeds and sacrifices of the soldiers of INA led to political
consciousness among the Indian forces.
