Roger Bacon said: “Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom”. Also
Jonathan Culver stated that “English language is a work in progress. Have fun with it.” As an international language, English is widely spoken by people all around the world. The English language is the most common language that is used in sciences, books, magazines, newspapers, movies and other media of news or entertainment. I consider that, in this moment, English is the most important language and it is necessary to know it and to improve your English skills every day. English is the official language of 53 countries. It’s the most widely-spoken language worldwide. It can help increase your chances of landing a job. And, my favorite part about learning English, is that traveling become easier. What I think would help me improve my English (pronunciation and vocabulary) would be interaction with native English speakers. I would like to live temporarily in the UK to practice my English and live new experiences in attempt to improve my English as much as possible. If this is impossible for me at the moment, what I could change in my approach of the English language is the way I organize my time. Thus, I would allocate time every day for reading something in English. Anything, it doesn’t matter what: books, articles, news etc. Also, I could listen to as many interviews as possible in English. It is really important to improve English skills because it is never too late. Some ways to improve English are reading, watching movies or even listening to music. This should be included in the daily task and, after doing it for a long time, it becomes a habit. Watching movies in the original might help me enrich my vocabulary and improve my listening comprehension. Furthermore, this solution would allow me to combine study and pleasure and improve my motivation. Finally, I should allow enough time for writing and speaking practice, which are actually the most powerful tools for improving language skills. A lot of learners are afraid of making mistakes. This fear can lead to writer’s blocks and public speaking anxiety. However, practice is a critical element of language competence. Otherwise, the new words, phrases and constructions learnt by watching movies and reading books in English will be easily forgotten without using them in my papers and communication. Importantly, along with overcoming my fear of making mistakes, I will need to do everything possible to improve my grammar, learning the rules and carefully proofreading the papers. English is undoubtedly one of the harder languages to learn. Full of nuances, unexpected pronunciations, odd rules and infuriating exceptions to rules, it takes dedication and perseverance to reach a good level of fluency. Therefore, don’t let any day pass without practicing improving your English skills. Take advantage of every opportunity to be able to speak and understand English at a high level. William Raspberry stated: “Good English, well spoken and well written, will open more doors than a college degree. Bad English will slam doors you did not even know existed.”
