Math Modeling

Math modeling simplifies complex real-world problems into mathematical problems to enable predictions and solutions. It has advantages like being simple and enabling predictions, but simplifications may cause errors and models may only work in certain conditions. Math modeling can help investigate climate change by simplifying world problems into simpler problems that can be solved, such as modeling carbon dioxide levels based on tree populations or production levels. The stages for developing a math model are to identify the real-world problem, create a mathematical representation, make predictions using the model, compare the model to real data, and improve the model based on findings.

WHAT IS MATH

MODELING?
Math modeling is a simplification of
real world problems so that
predictions and solutions can be
made
TWO OTHER REASONS WHY
MATH MODELS ARE USED
Predictions Solutions
Predictions can easily be made Solutions can be made from math
from math problems and be models as well and immediately
applied directly to the real world be used

ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES OF MATH
MODELING
Advantages Disadvantages
Simple and easy Simplifications might cause
Enables predictions errors
Might only work in certain
conditions

CLIMATE CHANGE
Math modelings can help investigate climate change by simplifying certain world
problems that are way too complex into simpler problems that can easily be
solved.
For example, if we assume the amount of trees in the world stays the same every
year then we can calculate the amount of carbon dioxide that we can make per
year and conclude if we need to decrease the amount or not.
For another example, we can assume the amount of carbon dioxide we produce
per year is constant then we can calculate the amount of trees we need to have.

STAGES FOR THE

MATH MODEL
1. Identify the world problem
2. A math model is made
3. Predictions are made using the math model
4. Collection of data from the real world
5. Compare the math model with real world data
6. Identify how well the math model is already
7. Improve the model
