Course Descriptions For MS Theatre Arts

Students in 6th grade explore acting, movement, improvisation and vocal skills through preparing and performing scenes and plays. They learn audience etiquette and basics of theatre history, tech and careers. In 7th grade, students further develop acting, vocal and character skills through performances, and explore playwriting, script analysis and etiquette. Students gain intermediate knowledge of history and tech. By 8th grade, students demonstrate expanded skills in acting, character, physicality and voice. Through creating scenes, analyzing plays and critiquing, they show technical theatre knowledge, performance etiquette and a regional perspective of theatre arts.

MS Theatre Arts

Course Descriptions

6th Grade
Students in this course explore acting, physical movement, improvisation, vocal technique and
expression through the preparation of scenes and plays for in-class and outside-of-class
performance. Students demonstrate audience etiquette, and gain a basic understanding of
technical theatre, theatre history, and careers within the world of theatre.

7th Grade
Students develop further skills in acting technique, vocal expression, and characterization
through in-class and outside-of-class performances. This course explores beginning playwriting
techniques, script analysis, and audience etiquette. Students gain an Intermediate
understanding of theatre history and technical elements.

8th Grade
Students will demonstrate an expanded understanding of acting technique, characterization,
physicality and proper vocal technique. By creating original scenes, analyzing plays, critiquing
performances students will demonstrate depth of knowledge in technical theatre and
performance etiquette while developing a regional perspective of theatre arts.
