Project Summary
The Master Economics of Globalisation and European Integration (EGEI) is a two-year program fully taught in
English. It is organised in a truly global learning environment, where the diverse cultural background of students,
recruited at global level, is combined with mobility in at least three countries and teachers from different EU and
extra-EU countries. This makes the EGEI master a unique learning and life experience. The master aims at
preparing graduates who can meet an increasing demand for academically trained economists who have solid
knowledge and the advanced skills to understand globalisation dynamics and economic integration. Graduates
are prepared for pursuing excellence in academic research as well as to contribute to policy recommendations or
business strategies in the public and private sector. The aims of EGEI Master are achieved by combining different
disciplines, namely economics, laws and business, with learning of research methods and data analysis. A
blending of traditional and innovative teaching and learning methods ensures continuous involvement of the
students in the program and development of critical soft skills. The first three semesters of the program are
organized around a progressive specialisation. The emphasis of the first semester lies on basic disciplines to
provide the students with a strong background in economic theory and methods and an introduction to law.
During the second semester, students focus on economics of globalisation and European integration, and start
preparing their dissertation. In the third semester, they specialise in a specific track among the four available
orientations. The fourth semester is devoted to an internship in an academic institution, in a public body or in
private corporation, and to the finalization of the dissertation. Throughout the program the learning process is
enriched by the continuous exposure of students to academic research, business cases and real-life EU
policy-making activities carried out by partners institutions and external experts. Students are given the
opportunity to participate in seminars, conferences, policy events and meeting with practitioners. This has the
goal to extend their opportunities of employability, build a network as well as learn to deal with different
languages, approaches and specific interests. Well-though internship opportunities contribute substantially to a
transition from higher education to the labour market. The programme is jointly offered by a consortium of eight
partner institutions from seven different countries that span three continents and have a long history of
cooperation in teaching and research. A number of associate partners from all over the world will enrich the
quality of the program by helping in the recruitment of high talented students, contributing to teaching and related
scientific events, offering opportunities for internships, providing additional scholarships.
