This histopathology report from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in Lahore, Pakistan describes the microscopic findings of a hysterectomy specimen from a 54-year-old female with a history of postmenopausal bleeding. The endometrium showed stromal pseudodecidualization with no evidence of hyperplasia, chronic endometritis, or malignancy. The myometrium showed adenomyosis and multiple leiomyomata up to 40mm. The diagnosis was of an endocervix with no significant pathology, a progestin-affected endometrium, and adenomyosis with multiple leiomyomata in the myometrium.

Specimen Nature: HYSTERECTOMY


Specimen Site: UTERUS
History: Postmenopausal bleeding.

Gross: Specimen container is labeled with the patient's name and medical record number and marked for site as
uterus.
Received in formalin is a hysterectomy specimen.
Uterus: 100 x 50 x 40 mm.
Maximum thickness of endometrium: 2 mm. Myometrium shows multiple fibroids ranging in size from 5 to
40 mm. Representative sections are taken and submitted as follows:-
A) Anterior and posterior cervix; B) Anterior and posterior endomyometrium; C&D) Section from the
fibroid.

Micro: Sections from the endometrium reveal stromal pseudodecidualization with plump stromal cells that have
abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. No evidence of endometrial hyperplasia, chronic endometritis or
malignancy seen.

Diagnosis: UTERUS, HYSTERECTOMY:


Endocervix - no significant pathology.
Endometrium - showing progestin effect.
Myometrium - adenomyosis and leiomyomata (multiple, largest 40 mm).
