1981 SIGHT PROBLEMS
At just 3 years old,
Tanaka developed
sight problems.
2009 REPRESENTATIVE
After his sight
declined in 2002,
he began to
compete in 2006;
eventually going on
to represent Japan
from 2009 onwards.
TANAKA'S GOAL
Tanaka's goal as an athlete
is to 'work hard so that
people can appreciate blind
football as an exciting sport,
instead of thinking the
players are amazing
because they can play
without being able to see.'
He also wants to be a great
"wall" against the up and
coming generation of
players, as well as pass
down his knowledge and
experience about the game.
