Blind Football Presentation

Blind football is a variation of futsal played by visually impaired athletes. It is played 5-a-side on an enclosed pitch with walls and a jingling ball. The sport is organized by the IBSA and divided into divisions based on visual impairment. Athlete Akihito Tanaka plays for Japan's national team and hopes to pass on his experience and help more people appreciate blind football.

DEFINITION
To be 'disabled' means that a
person has a physical or
mental condition that limits
their senses, movements, or
activities.

A variation of futsal, blind
football is for people who are
blind or have visual
impairments.

Blind Football World


Championships are organized
by the International Blind
Sports Association(IBSA).

The B1 division is for


completely bilnd athletes.
The B2 and B3 divisions are for
partially sighted athletes.
DIFFERENCES
FROM
CONVENTIONAL
FOOTBALL
Just like conventional football, its is
normally played outdoors. It is very
similar to futsal, they play on artificial
grass. In blind football they play five-
aside, whereas conventional football is
played eleven-aside. There are no outs
in blind football because the pitch is
enclosed with walls that indicate the
edge of the playing area and are used to
keep the ball in play.

At just 3 years old,
Tanaka developed
sight problems.

2009 REPRESENTATIVE
After his sight
declined in 2002,
he began to
compete in 2006;
eventually going on
to represent Japan
from 2009 onwards.
TANAKA'S GOAL
Tanaka's goal as an athlete
is to 'work hard so that
people can appreciate blind
football as an exciting sport,
instead of thinking the
players are amazing
because they can play
without being able to see.'
He also wants to be a great
"wall" against the up and
coming generation of
players, as well as pass
down his knowledge and
experience about the game.

OF THE TOP BLIND FOOTBALL NATIONS IN THE
WORLD.
