A survey found that 1 in 4 victims were 13 or younger and 2/3 of victims were girls threatened before age 16. 2) Initial contact often occurs through social media, with threats coming within 2 weeks. While some victims block offenders, threats do not always stop, and 62% comply with demands in an effort to make threats stop. 3) Victims are unlikely to report sextortion outside of family and friends, with just 17% reporting to law enforcement, largely due to feelings of shame or embarrassment.
