Project Proposal NSTP CWTS
Project Proposal NSTP CWTS
PROJECT DURATION : Every Friday from March 10, 2023 to May 19,
2023
OBJECTIVES:
1. To improve the numeracy and literacy skills of elementary pupils through an
engaging and effective teaching program.
2. To provide NSTP-CWTS students of the College of Education (Elementary
Department) at USM with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively
teach literacy to elementary pupils.
3. To help develop their skills in numeracy through fun and educational activities.
4. To promote a culture of numeracy and literacy among elementary pupils, their
families, and the wider community, encouraging them to see the value of
these skills and to engage with them on a weekly basis.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Numeracy and Literacy are critical skills that play a vital role in shaping the future of
elementary pupils. These are foundational skills that are essential for the academic
and personal development of elementary pupils. These skills are the building blocks
of all other learning areas, and they play a vital role in shaping a student's future.
Numeracy skills are crucial because they allow students to understand and solve
mathematical problems, which are necessary for daily life and a variety of
professions. Numeracy skills also help students develop critical thinking and
problem-solving skills that are useful in many areas of life.
Literacy skills are essential for communication, as they enable students to read,
write, and express themselves effectively. These skills are also vital for social and
emotional development, as they allow students to understand and interact with
others, express their thoughts and feelings, and make sense of the world around
them.

Therefore, it is essential for elementary schools to prioritize the development of
these skills in their curriculum and provide opportunities for students to develop and
practice these skills regularly.
We believe that this program has the potential to make a real difference in the lives
of elementary pupils, helping them to reach their full potential and achieve their
goals. By providing these pupils with the tools they need to succeed, we can help
ensure that they have the best possible start in life and that they are well-prepared
for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
The project will cover the 100 pupils who are struggling in reading and basic
mathematics.
METHODOLOGY:
In this project, reading, writing, math, and other literacy and numeracy activities will
be implemented along with the lecture-activity method. Incorporating reading, writing,
and math activities is an excellent way to promote literacy and numeracy skills.
These activities could include reading assignments, writing prompts, math problems,
and other activities that require students to engage with these subjects in meaningful
ways.
