Enhanced Hybrid Module S7 Q1 M3 Week 4.edited

This document provides a lesson on mixtures and substances. It is divided into two lessons - Lesson 1 on mixtures vs. compounds, and Lesson 2 on substances vs. mixtures. The document defines mixtures and substances, provides examples of each, and gives students practice questions to test their understanding of distinguishing between mixtures and substances. It aims to help students understand the basic concepts of mixtures based on their properties.

Science
1st Quarter – Hybrid Module 3
(Week 4)

SDO Taguig City and Pateros

Let’s Learn
This module was written and designed to help students or learners easily
understand the basic concepts of mixtures from substances based on a set of
properties.
Mixture is two or more substances (matter that is always made up of same
combination of atoms) that are physically blended but are not chemically bonded
together. There are two different types of mixtures – heterogeneous mixture and
homogeneous mixture. While substance or pure substance can be separated into
simpler substances by chemical methods/reactions that has also two ways to classify
which are compound and element.

The module is divided into two lessons, namely:

• Lesson 1 – Mixture from Compounds
• Lesson 2 – Substances vs. Mixture

After going through this module, you are expected to:

• Distinguish mixtures from compounds according to its composition and
properties.
• Classify given materials as substances or mixtures (include chemical formula
as substances with their common names and chemical names of materials found
at home or in the community); and
• Determine unknown materials as substances or mixtures based on the given
descriptions/ statements (ex. A material is burned and produced into two new
materials. What is the nature of the material?).

Let’s Elaborate

Mixtures vs. Compounds

Matter is anything that has a mass, occupies space and can be a mixture or a
pure substance. Mixture contains a variety of elements and compounds and there are
two types of mixture which are the heterogeneous and homogeneous mixture. While a
pure substance or a substance can be a compound or element that has a chemical
property. A compound is made up of different kinds of atom that are chemically
combined.
