English Presentation

This document provides an overview of fluid mechanics as the topic for a presentation. It begins with identifying the faculty and course details. The second slide defines fluid mechanics and lists some of the key concepts in the field like viscosity, turbulence, fluid dynamics, and fluid statics. Unfamiliar terms from the passage are then defined in the third slide. The final slide discusses how selecting the topic of fluid mechanics from the wide range of possibilities in mechanical engineering was challenging due to the author's ADHD.

Fluid mechanics

Fluid mechanics is a branch of physics that studies the behaviour of fluids, which include liquids,
gases, and plasmas. The study of fluid mechanics is important in many fields, including engineering,
geology, biology, and meteorology. It deals with the fundamental principles governing the motion
and flow of fluids, and how they interact with different structures and surfaces. One of the key
concepts in fluid mechanics is viscosity, which refers to a fluid's resistance to deformation or flow.
Another important concept is turbulence, which is the chaotic and unpredictable flow of fluids that
occurs at high speeds or in complex systems. Fluid mechanics also includes the study of fluid
dynamics, which involves the motion and forces of fluids in motion, and fluid statics, which deals
with the behaviour of fluids at rest. Other important concepts in fluid mechanics include Bernoulli's
principle, which relates the pressure of a fluid to its velocity, and the Reynolds number, which is a
dimensionless parameter used to predict the onset of turbulence in fluid flows.

Unfamiliar words and their definitions:

Plasmas - a state of matter consisting of charged particles

Geology - the study of the Earth's physical structure and substance

Meteorology - the study of the Earth's atmosphere and weather patterns

Viscosity - the measure of a fluid's resistance to flow

Turbulence - chaotic and unpredictable flow of fluids

Dynamics - the study of motion and forces

Statics - the study of objects at rest

Dimensionless - without physical units

Parameter - a variable used to represent a quantity in a mathematical equation

Compressible - capable of being compressed or reduced in volume

Shear - a force that causes deformation or cutting

Hydrostatic - relating to the pressure of fluids at rest

Cavitation - the formation of vapor bubbles in a liquid due to rapid changes in pressure

Convection - the transfer of heat through the movement of fluids

Kinematic - relating to motion

For me, the process of finding this text was the most difficult part of this presentation and probably
also writing this paragraph. I knew the text had to be related to the course that I am doing, but
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines, dealing with anything that
moves, from components to machines to the human body. And as someone with ADHD, picking one
particular topic out of this wide array of concepts was truly a mentally challenging task.
