Activity Sheet-Theorems On Inscribed Angles

The document discusses theorems related to inscribed angles and angles within circles. It defines an inscribed angle as an angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle. The intercepted arc of an angle is the arc within the interior of the angle that has endpoints on the angle. Theorems discussed include: if an angle is inscribed in a circle, its measure is equal to half the measure of its intercepted arc; if two inscribed angles intercept congruent arcs, the angles are congruent; an angle inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle; and for a cyclic quadrilateral, the sum of the measures of opposite angles is equal to 180 degrees. Examples are provided

Theorems on Inscribed Angles

An inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides contains the chords of the circle. The arc
that lies in the interior of an inscribed angle and has endpoints on the angle is called the intercepted arc of the angle.

∠𝐿𝐴𝑃, ∠𝑇𝑂𝑃, and ∠𝐶𝐺𝑀 are inscribed angles. Their respective vertices, 𝐴, 𝑂 and 𝐺 are points on the
circumference of the circles. Their respective sides, AL and AP̅ , 𝑂𝑇̅ and OP̅ , and GC̅ and GM , contain chords of
the circles.
^ ^
LP ̂ , TP ̂ , and ^CM ̂ lie in the interior of inscribed angles ∠𝐿𝐴𝑃, ∠𝑇𝑂𝑃, and ∠𝐶𝐺𝑀, respectively.
Thus, ^ ^
LP ̂ , TP ̂ , and ^
CM ̂ are the intercepted arcs of these inscribed angles.

Theorem 1: Inscribed Angle Theorem

Instructions. For each figure, identify the inscribed angle as well as its intercepted arc. Using a
protractor, measure the inscribed angle and the intercepted arc. Record your answers on the table.

Theorem 2: Inscribed Angles Intercepting Arcs Theorem
If two inscribed angles of a circle (or congruent circles) intercept congruent arcs or the same arc,
then the angles are congruent.
