MACROECONOMICS

SEMESTER PROJECT GUIDELINES – Fall 2022

Aim
The aim of the project is to enable students to understand the working of the individual part of
the economy, the household and the firms and how these aspects covered during the course
enable them the decision making in challenging environment. The outcome is to deal the
application of microeconomics concepts to achieve the desired objectives.

Scope

This is a group task.

Objectives

The objective of this project is to introduce students to basic macroeconomic concepts, and
facilitate them in applying those concepts to global economic scenarios. The core concepts of
macroeconomics relative to income, employment, general level of output and prices, business
cycles, money and banking, monetary and fiscal policy.

Learning Outcomes

1. Be able to demonstrate clear understanding and application of salient aspects of


macroeconomic concepts
2. Be able to evaluate the importance of real and nominal GDP, Inflation, Income,
consumptions and savings link
3. Be able to explain the policy mechanism (Fiscal and Monetary policies) through
which macroeconomic objectives are achieved
4. Be able to analyze the factors responsible for economic growth like inflation and
unemployment the importance of international trade for the economy

Project Details

For this project, you are required to conduct comparative analysis of economic indicators of two
countries in which Pakistan is the primary country. Students can select any one secondary
country. Students have to select 5 indicators in a group. Each group member must make
comparison of these indicators.

Students have to collect time series data from 2011 to 2021 by using any of the following
sources:

 Ministry of Finance (http://www.finance.gov.pk/)
Requirement

How to collect data, import data files in excel, how to prepare tables and graphs, and how to
interpret them are already taught in the class.
1. Read articles related to macroeconomic topics taught in class and relate theories with
practical data, policies and strategies.
2. Provide proper references and sources of data and information
Be sure that you have clearly answered all parts of all questions. Both content and writing style
are important in this task. Proofread your work and pay careful attention to spelling,
punctuation, and sentence structure.

Modalities for Presentation


a. Reading of slides not allowed
b. Use of slides shall be done appropriately
c. The rules for presentations shall be followed
d. The questions shall be taken in the right spirit
e. The copy of the project and slides shall be deposited on GCR
f. Formal dress code must be followed

Details of Write Up

Each group submits the written report on GCR. In addition to this, presentation on the topic shall
be done by the group members. A4 paper shall be used with 12 fonts Times Roman. Adequate
headings and subheadings of paragraph shall be followed. Line spacing is 1.5.

Submission Deadline
The last date for submission of project is 14 and 15 Lecture of Fall semester 2022

Duration of Presentation
Presentation time shall be of 5-7minutes followed by questions / answer session. The power
point slides shall be shared separately by each group. The presentation shall be done during
the 14-15 classes.

Feedback Session
After the presentations, an open feedback session shall be undertaken. Students shall share their
experiences about the projects in general and the entire course in particular. All the suggestion to
improve the contents of the course, pedagogy, and other related aspects are welcome.

Plagiarism: SZABIST has a very strong culture of academic integrity, and zero tolerance for
plagiarism is an integral part of this policy. Any student who commits plagiarism will be
