IEEE will be essential to the global technical community and to technical professionals everywhere, and be universally recognized for the contributions of technology and of technical professionals in improving global conditions.
Directors message
What is IEEE?
A leading technology-related professional group, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has more than 395,000 members, including some 90,000 students, in 160 countries. The IEEE provides technical and professional information to members on topics such as aerospace systems, biomedical engineering, computers, consumer electronics, electric power, and telecommunications. It sponsors more than 1,100 annual conferences and publishes a variety of technical literature, including journals, magazines, and conference proceedings
Where is it situated?
IEEEs head office is situated at New York city. Besides,it has student branches and corporate offices situated round the globe.
Why IEEE?
Lets begin with a proverb All that glitters does not shine , now there are two things about this, firstly the above statement may not be grammatically correct and secondly this proverb does not exist and finally now that I have your attention Why IEEE??!!
Some valuable points to be noted : 1.It is an international organization with head quarters in New York, USA. 2.It is one of the worlds biggest organizations for engineers having world wide network.
Do you know? IEEE has more than 4,00,000 members in more than 160 countries
3.India ranks second in having the most number of student branches following US. 4.They release about 1/3rd of the worlds technical publications. 5.They provide e-mail alias ,i.e. filtering mails from viruses and spasm 6.All these features for just Rs1300 per annum. What? Rs1300? Now thats a lot of money. Think of the many things you can do with that money, (phone calls, junk food, movies, gifts), why not throw it out in the river and watch how it floats? No? , well its better than giving it to some organization and being made to attend its boring meetings and award ceremonies .Who has time for all that anyways! All we have is 4 years of college life, who needs international journals when we are not even covering our syllabus and who cares about that freaky e-mail filters? Why its need when we can download full versions of antivirus for free from torrents for ever with life long updates. So, by not joining we are saving Rs 1300 for our parents!
Everyone else from the IEEE president to the student members are volunteers, who pay to volunteer. So whats in it, to be so big, so popular? They say volunteers go to heaven. Now, that theoretically can never be the reason. Now just imagine an engineer say J has some ideas that can revolutionize the world, may be an alternative for oil and J has the best possible concept and design. But unless J reveals all these, others wont know about his inventions. For this J needs an exposure to the real world, a true platform where Js ideas can be resolved, rebuild and strengthened. This is where IEEE comes in. Now, as these assumptions of inventions and innovative ideas turn out to be indigestible for many of us, we ought to have a simplified view of IEEE. Just imagine a situation where you are asked to address a public or organize an event . If it is a professional event, you have to know many important aspects on how to do it perfectly. For this you need to have a platform where you can experiment your ideas and develop your skills. It is interesting that even in campus interviews and other recruitment programs companies tend to select people standing out for their extracurricular activities than just the percentage of marks. This is because, they need people who are exposed to the public, know how to deal with them and knows how to express and implement their ideas.
With IEEE, its our own world, where engineers from all platforms unite and put in their best efforts for its various activities. Thus IEEE is one platform where you can nurture your skills and personality. It offers you infinite opportunity to enhance your professional career.
Do you know? IEEE has 2,081 chapters that unite local members with similar technical interests
With IEEE you will have the opportunity of attending both national and international conferences representing region 10 and hence can open your doors be friends with people from different walks of life.
Foundation of AIEE:
In the spring of 1884, a small group of individuals in the electrical professions met in New York. They formed a new organization to support professionals in their nascent field and to aid them in their efforts and named their organization as American Institute of Electrical Engineers.
Foundation of IRE:
Do you know? Institute of Radio Engineers,IRE was formed IEEE has in 1912,modeled on AIEE which devoted Itself towards the development of radios and 1,855 student electronics. It furthered its profession by link- branches at ing its members through publications and colleges and conferences and encouraging them to aduniversities in vance their industries by promoting innovation and excellence in the emerging products. 80 countries
