 Do research on human rights violation with the focus on social and

and certain competencies which are to be demonstrated.
ASSESSMENT  The project requires extended reading and writing on the part of the
learner.
 The project will involve thorough investigation into and sourcing
information on human rights violations.

 Although you will spend time outside of contact time to collect


DURATION resources and information, the completion of the task must be
facilitated by the teacher in class time.
 You will need adequate guidance at the outset of the project and
progress should be monitored throughout.

 The complete project must be neat, typed (preferably) & bound or stapled.
 Cover page - The following items should reflect on your cover page:

- Heading of your project
 Table of content - is compulsory, but no marks will be awarded for providing
one.

Structure of project

 Your project should have 3 main components


- an introduction,
- information gathering
- findings
- conclusion and
- bibliography.

 Composition of your project


- Activity 1: Introduction
o Introduction or problem statement where 8 marks will be awarded
o Thorough planning should take place e.g.
 Brainstorm the topic.
 Draw a mind map outlining the project.
- Activity 2: Gather information
 Data collection – it requires extended reading and writing on your
part, it could take the form of interviews, surveys, observations
 Data collection through variety of means: research, interviews, etc.
o The project should involve thorough investigation into and sourcing
information, this could take the form of:
o an investigation,
o observation and making suggestions to improve upon the topic

TASK 2: PROJECT

Human rights violations / discrimination take place in our communities every day. Too
many of us have become de-sensitized to these issues. Our challenge in becoming
responsible citizens of our country is to become better informed, become proactive in
raising awareness and to find solutions to the problems around us.

ACTIVITY 1: Introduction
Do extensive study and research on human rights violations and answer the
following questions.
Based on the research that you conducted write an essay on:
“Human rights violations in relation to safe and healthy living”
Please use the numbering and mark allocation to guide your responses.
1.1 . Define the term “Human rights violations”. (2x1=2)
1.2 . Name the public holiday observed on 21 March? (1)
1.3 . Discuss the purpose of the public holiday observed on 21 March. (2x2=4)

2.2. Discuss the impact of the two (2) challenges on safe healthy living

2.3. Name and justify three (3) laws/legislation from the Constitution
that protect citizens against the human right violation of safe healthy
environment. (3+6=9)

2.4 . Critically discuss the citizens’ responsibility to ensure that their


environments promote safe and healthy living. (3x3=9)

2.5 . Suggest how the government can ensure that basic human dignity is maintained
in relation to safe and healthy living in our communities. (5x1=5)
