Q4 Activity - No 2 - Statistics and Probability

This document contains a statistics activity from Leyte National High School involving hypothesis testing. The activity contains two problems: [1] Testing whether the mean height of males aged 18-24 is 70 inches using a sample mean of 65 inches and standard deviation of 3 inches, and [2] Testing whether blended learning improves student performance using a sample mean score of 83 and standard deviation of 4, compared to a population mean of 80 and standard deviation of 3. Students are directed to show the steps and solutions for each hypothesis test, including identifying the appropriate test to use based on the given information and critical values. The activity is intended to help students practice hypothesis testing concepts.

STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Quarter 4: Activity No. 2
Name: _______________________________________________ Grade level & section: ______________
Direction: Answer the following problems.
1. A rural health unit conducted a survey on the heights of the male aged 18 to 24 years old. It was found
out that the mean height of male aged 18 to 24 years old was 70 inches. Test the hypothesis that the
mean height of the male aged 18 to 24 years old is not 70 inches if a random sample of 20 male aged
18 to 24 years old had a mean height of 65 inches with a standard deviation of 3. Use 1 % level of
significance.
Solutions:
Steps Solution
Step 1. Write the given
values.

Step 2. Formulation of null

and alternative hypotheses.

Step 3. Answer the following

questions:

Is the population variance

known?

Is the sample standard

deviation known?

Is the sample size greater

than 30?

From what table we can get

our critical values?

Step 4. Identify the type of

test to be used.
Step 5. Identify the critical
vales.

2. A teacher conducted a study to now if blended learning improves the students’ performances. A class
of 25 students of Grade 11 was surveyed and found out that their mean score was 83 with a standard
deviation of 4 . A study from other country revealed that μ=80 with a standard deviation of 3.Test the
hypothesis at 10 % level of significance.
Solutions:
Steps Solution
Step 1. Write the given
values.

Step 2. Formulation of null

and alternative hypotheses.

Step 3. Identify the test

statistic.

Step 4. Compute the test-

statistic.

Step 5. Identify the critical

value(s).
Step 6. Make decision about
the null hypothesis.

Step 7. Make a conclusion.
