Insights/Key Take Away/Learning Clarifications/Questions

As a teacher, attending the School Learning Action Cell

(SLAC) session on problem solving in mathematics was an
excellent opportunity to gain insight into the different
strategies that can be employed to effectively teach and solve
both routine and non-routine math problems.

The session started with a discussion of the importance of

problem solving in mathematics and the different types of
problems that students encounter in their academic journey.
We explored the differences between routine and non-routine
problems and the various techniques that can be used to
solve each type of problem.

The SLAC session was particularly helpful in highlighting

the importance of teaching problem-solving strategies to
students. As teachers, we must ensure that we equip our
students with the necessary skills to tackle problems
independently, regardless of the type of problem they
encounter.

We also discussed the importance of developing critical

thinking skills in students, which are essential for solving non-
routine problems. We explored various strategies that can be
used to encourage critical thinking in students, including the
use of open-ended questions and problem-based learning.

Overall, the SLAC session was a valuable experience

that provided me with a deeper understanding of problem
solving in mathematics. It has inspired me to incorporate more
problem-solving activities and strategies into my teaching to
help my students become more confident and capable
problem solvers. I look forward to sharing these insights with
my colleagues and applying them in my teaching practice.
