NavSync Offline User Guide

This document provides instructions for offline updating of NavSync software when an internet connection is not available onboard. If the connection problem is due to no internet connection onboard, there is an option from version
6.4.0.3 of NavSync to use e-mail updating.

DEFINE OFFLINE MAIL SPLIT SIZE

Access the NavSync settings by clicking on [Settings] in the lower right corner of the main screen.

Offline mail split size (Kb): Enter the max email size you can receive. Default value is 1MB (1024Kb)

SENDING OFFLINE UPDATE REQUEST

Click on [Offline] in the lower right corner of the “Connection problems detected…” screen.
SEND NOW

If your email client is installed on the same computer as NavSync, you can click on “Send the e-mail
now” to automatically compose an e-mail or save the request to a file and move it via USB.

• Select the “Send the e-mail now” option and click [Next]

NavSync will now try to open the default e-mail program and attach the request file to the mail.
Destination e-mail is already filled in and you can immediately send the mail

After sending the email, you will see the message below

• Click [OK] and wait for response from NAVTOR server.

The request will now be picked up by NAVTOR servers and a response made as a normal update
according to your operation area. Please do not resend request if it takes some time to get a
response, it depends on the patch size.

SEND LATER

If you choose to save file for sending later, you will need to browse for the location to save the file

Save the file and move it to a computer with an e-mail client and send it as an attachment to
[email protected], no special subject or body needed.

RECEIVING UPDATE RESPONSE

When you receive the response back from server it will be divided in e-mails according to the mail
split size configured in the NavSync settings. Default split size is 1MB (1024Kb).

Response:

• Save all attachments to the root of the NavStick as shown below

• Start the NavSync application again

NavSync will check if there are OfflineResponse files on the root of the NavStick and use them for an
update independent of network connectivity.

Please note that NavSync quickly jumps to step 4 and performs the update on the NavStick.

SENDING UPDATE REPORT

When the update is completed you will be asked to return an update report. You will get the same
two options for sending the attachment as for the standard update

Please return the OfflineReport.xml file to show that update has been successfully completed. If the
report is not returned, the update report will not be available in NavTracker for later retrieval.

• Click send

The NavStick is now updated and ready to update your ECDIS. From this window, you can also open
the update report.

The update files are automatically deleted from the NavStick after they have been applied.
