Background/ Rationale

One of the mandates of the Department of Education is to ensure that all learners shall
be given the opportunity to have an access of the basic education to develop their full
potentials. It is embodied in the Enhanced Basic Education Act 2013 than the state shall
established, maintain and support a complete, adequate, and integrated system of education
relevant to the needs of the people, the country and the society at large. It states that the state
shall protect and promote the rights of all citizens to quality education at all levels, and shall
take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.

A number of programs and strategies have been introduced by the Department of

Education which includes the techniques and strategies to respond to the rights and to address
the needs of the learners.
Game and puzzles can help a lot the learners in kindergarten to Grade 3 (K-3)
teachers. It is a Teacher Professional Development (TPD) initiative in support of the
Department of Education’s Early Language, Literacy and Numeracy (ELLN) program under
Every Child a Reader Program (ECARP).

To fully realize the goals of the Department of Education, schools then are
encouraged to design and implement strategies which may help in realizing the activities to
address the needs of the school particularly the learners.

Hence, this LAC session is proposed to capacitate all teachers concerned teaching
mathematics in primary grades.

puzzles in teaching.
2. Plan and implement balanced literacy and numeracy using games and puzzles instruction
for K-3 Learners.
3. Appreciate innovative measures to sustain continual professional development.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

I. Program Title: ‘Ni Berto a Nagaget ken Nasingpet nga Ubing,A bigbook for
Math 1.

Target Date: October 2022-June 2023

Proposed Venue: Sta.Clara Elementary School, Sta. Clara, Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya

II. Background/ Rationale

Big books motivated children to read and created an exciting way for them to
experience books. It is also an important way to motivate pupils to read.
Based from the result of the Non-Numerates Test and Master Your Skills in
Mathematics Grade 1 given last October 2023 ,all pupils were non-numerates .The proponent
used of big book as one of the solution to improve the performance of grade 1 pupils in
mathematics.

This resource material sought to answer the problem on how to improve the
performance level of the grade 1 pupils in mathematics of Sta.Clara Elementary School.

III. Objectives

The specific objectives are the following:

a. Provide the grade 1 pupils of Sta.Clara Elementary School the strategic

intervention materials in Mathematics.
b. Increase the academic performance of the grade 1 pupils.
c. Enhance the mastery of the different skills in Mathematics.
d. Instill interest and love among pupils in the subject Mathematics.
IV. Program Description
The big book making and development is based on the least mastered skills from
the given summative and periodic test and its intended to help pupils to
understand the lesson easily.

IV. Outcomes
After the construction of a big book in mathematics, the non-numerate pupils
improves and the result of master your skills improved.

V. The beneficiaries of this development project are 29 grade 1 pupils of

Sta.Clara Elementary School and all grade 1 teachers of other schools in
the District of Aritao II for the school year 2022-2023 onward.

VI. Methods and strategies

1.Identified the least mastered competencies in grade 1.

2. Constructed instructional material in math-Big book.
3.Validated Big book by the Public Schools District Supervisor.
