INTERHOUSE BLITZ

CHESS
TOURNAMENT
OVERVIEW, RULES AND PROCEDURE
OVERVIEW OF THE TOURNAMENT
1. The Interhouse Blitz Chess Tournament will be organized for students from
Intermediate category to Super Senior category.
2. The selection process and matches will take place after school hours during the
stay-back.
3. Participants are required to bring their own devices (i.e. laptops/tablets), on
which they will play the chess matches.
4. The selection procedure will consist of two rounds, both of which will be
conducted on Lichess.
5. For the final round, the matches will be conducted using physical chess boards.
6. The chess matches will have a time control of 3 minutes with a 2-second
increment (3+2).
7. Results of this tournament will be used for the School Chess Team.

AGE CATEGORY
1. Houses will conduct selections on basis of partcipants age.
2. There will be three age categories for the Interhouse Blitz Chess
Tournament.

CATEGORY AGE GROUP

Intermediates (U14) Born on or after 01/01/2010

Seniors (U17) Born on or after 01/01/2007

Super Seniors (U19) Born on or after 01/01/2005


SELECTION
PROCEDURE
ROUND 1
1. All participants who fill the form will be included in Round 1 of the
tournament.
2. The selections for Round 1 will take place on Lichess Arena, with a time
control of 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment (3+2).
3. Each of the Houses will create a Lichess Arena tournament link specific to
their house, and participants belonging to each house will join their
respective tournament link.
4. As stated before, participants are required to bring their own devices, on
which they will play the chess matches.
5. The tournament will last for 1 hour 40 minutes, from 14:30 to 16:10.
6. Ex: Jupiter house will create a Lichess Arena tournament link for Junior
category, and all participants belonging to Junior category will join it.
AFTER THE END OF ROUND 1,
EACH HOUSE WILL CHOOSE
TOP 8 PLAYERS FROM EACH
CATEGORY.
ROUND 2
1. The top 8 players from each house, from each category will play against
each other.
2. The selections for Round 2 will take place on Lichess Arena, with a time
control of 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment (3+2).
3. Each of the Houses will create a Lichess Arena tournament link specific to
their house, and the top 8 players belonging to each house and each
category will join their respective tournament link.
4. The tournament will last for 1 hour 40 minutes, from 14:30 to 16:10.
AFTER THE END OF ROUND 2,
EACH HOUSE WILL CHOOSE
TOP 2 PLAYERS FROM EACH
CATEGORY.

ROUND
FINALS
ROUND 1
1. Each house will have two finalists, for each category.
2. The finals will be conducted using physical chess boards, and it will be a
knockout format.
3. The time control for the matches will be set at 3 minutes with a 2-second
increment (3+2).
4. The finalists from the same house will not compete against each other.
Instead, they will be randomly matched up with players from other
houses.
5. After the end of 1st final round, we will get 4 winners.
FINALS
ROUND 2

1. The 2nd round of finals will consist of 4 players, for each category.
2. The time control for the matches will be set at 3 minutes with a 2-second
increment (3+2) and will be played physically.
3. Players belonging to same house will not compete against each other and
will be matched up with player from other house.
4. After the 2nd final round, we will get 2 winners.
FINALS
ROUND 3
1. The winners of 2nd final round will compete for the 1st spot.
2. The losers of 2nd final round will compete for the 3rd spot.
3. Three matches will be played between players competing for 1st and 3rd
spot.
4. If a player wins two matches continuously, he will be declared the
winner.
5. The time control for the matches will be set at 3 minutes with a 2-second
increment (3+2) and will be played physically.
