Daily Lesson Plan (Data Gathering)

This document outlines a daily lesson plan on data gathering for a mathematics class. The objectives are for students to understand and define data gathering, sources of data, and different methods of data gathering. The lesson will introduce students to primary and secondary sources of data, define data gathering, and cover three common methods - interviews, surveys, and observation. Students will practice identifying appropriate data gathering methods and answering questions to evaluate their understanding of key concepts.

DATA GATHERING

I. OBJECTIVES:

A. CONTENT STANDARDS
- The students demonstrate an understanding of the data gathering.

B. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- The students are able to define the different methods of data gathering.

C. LEARNING COMPETENCIES/STANDARDS: Students are able to:

- Define the sources of data and data gathering.
- Determine the concept of data gathering.
- Develop an understanding of different methods of data gathering.

II. CONTENT

A. SUBJECT MATTER
- DATA GATHERING

B. REFERENCES
- Mathematics Quarter IV-Module 2 (Sampling and data gathering)

C. MATERIALS
- Powerpoint
- Projector
- Chalk and Board

III. PROCEDURE

A. REVIEW
1. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF DATA?
2. WHAT ARE THE LEVELS OF MEASUREMENT?

B. PURPOSE OF THE LESSON

The Purpose of today’s lesson is to define the sources of data and data
gathering, determine the concept of data gathering, and develop an
understanding of different methods of data gathering.
C. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPTS & PRACTICING NEW SKILLS

1) DATA – facts or information under study.

SOURCES OF DATA
a. PRIMARY SOURCES
- Data that come from people or organizations who have firsthand information
about a certain event, situation, or topic.

b. SECONDARY SOURCES
- This are second-hand information that are obtained from books, journals,
magazines, articles, researchers, etc.

2) DATA GATHERING
- It is a systematic process of collecting information for research or study.
- Data gathering is not an easy task especially if the subjects under one study are
in large numbers, that’s where sampling enters.

3) DATA GATHERING METHODS

a. INTERVIEW METHOD
- In this method, the researcher (interviewer) asks questions to the subject
(interviewee) to gather data.
- it can be done by any of the following means: face-to-face, via phone call, or
video call.

FOCUS GROUP – group interview. Individuals share similar backgrounds or experiences.

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE
 Data obtained is rich in information.  Difficult to do because of time
 Information is more accurate. constraints.
 Most of expensive to do.
 Data analysis is difficult because
most of the collected data are
qualitative.
b. SURVEY METHOD
- Questions are written on paper and sent to the participants through courier,
e-mail, or personal delivery.

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE
 It can be given to a large group of  Some questionnaires or survey
individuals. forms are difficult to recover.
 Serves more time.  Some answers of the respondents are
 Cheaper and more practical. not reliable.

c. OBSERVATION METHOD
- Uses the human senses to gather information such as attitudes or behaviors of
individuals, objects, or phenomena.

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE
 The subjects are being studied in  Needs to be done by an expert to
their natural environment. avoid bias.
 Provides detailed information.  Requires a lot of time to make sure
 The number of subjects is small. that the data obtained is accurate and
consistent.
