A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science in Grade IV

The document outlines a lesson plan about interactions among organisms for a 4th grade science class. The lesson plan aims to teach students to (1) identify the five types of interactions - mutualism, commensalism, predation, parasitism, and competition; (2) enumerate the five interactions; and (3) describe the importance of interactions among organisms. The plan includes teacher activities such as presenting examples of each interaction type, playing educational videos, and having students solve puzzles in groups to reinforce the concepts.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science in Grade IV

Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC)

Describe the effects of interactions among organisms in their environment.
(S4LT-IIi-kj-18)

Learning Objectives
At the end of the session, the pupils are expected to:
A. identify the five types of interaction among organisms;
B. enumerate the five interaction of organisms;
C. describe the importance of interactions among organism.

II. Matter
A. Effects of Interactions among organisms in their environment.
B. Reference:
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCS) with K-12 Curriculum
Codes, Science Learner’s Guide page 166-169
C. Materials: Pictures, power point presentation, videos
D. Approach: Discovery Approach, Interactive Approach, and Integrative
Technique

E. Values (Integration ESP)

Appreciate the importance of the different ecological interactions among organism

and how it contributes to ecological balance.

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Pupils Activity
A. Preparation
1. Greetings -Good morning too, teacher.
- Good morning, class. -We are fine. Thank you.
-How are you today?

2. Review
Answer the 3 questions orally.
B. Which is the primary source of -sun
energy in this picture?
C. Which is the primary producer? -plant
-grasshopper
D. Which is the primary consumer?

E. Motivation
-A gift!
The teacher will present a gift. Every gift -Yes, Teacher!
contains a magic word ‘’Mutualism, -I see the words
Predation, Commensalism, competition and Mutualism, Parasitisrn, Competition,
parasitism. Predation and Commensalism.

F. Presentation

We have just uncovered the

words Mutualism, Parasitism,
Competition, Predation and
Commensalism, which are the
interactions among organism in their
environment.

G. Setting Up Standards

-Before we start our lesson for -1. Sit properly.

This afternoon, what are the rules if the -2. Listen to teacher.
-3. Raise your right hand if you
teacher in talking here in front?
want to talk in the class.
-4. Respect each other.
H. Discussion
The teacher will play a video clip
about Interactions of Organisms.

SYMBIOSIS- interaction between two

different organisms living in close physical
association, typically to the advantage of both
organisms. There are five types of
Symbiosis: Mutualism, Parasitism,
Competition and Predation.

Mutualism- a relationship between two

species of organisms in which both benefit
from the association.
Commensalism- is an association
between two organisms in which one
benefits and the other derives neither
benefit nor harm.

Predation- is a type interaction where one

organism, the predator, kills and eats
another organism, its prey.

Parasitism- is a type of interaction

between species, where one organism,
the parasite, lives on or inside another
organism, the host, causing it some harm,
and is adapted structurally to this way of
life.

Competition - Competition occurs
-The five interactions of organisms
naturally between living organisms that
Mutualism, Parasitism, Competition
coexist in the same environment. For
and Predation.
example, animals may compete for
territory, water, food, or -the
mates. Competition often occurs importance of biological interaction is that
between members of the same species. it maintains the food web. A food web
This is called intraspecific competition. shows the food relationship
among living organisms and most food
I. The teacher will play a video clip about webs start with green plants. ... If
Interactions of Organisms. biological interaction doesn't exist,
many animals would die from starvation
as the food web wouldn't exist.
J. Generalization

- What are the five interactions of

organisms?

Is interaction between organisms important?

Why?

Group 1. Mutualism
Group 2. Commensalism
Group 3. Predation
Group 4. Parasitism
Group 5. Competition
K. Application
(Integration: Mathematics (solving a puzzle)
-Group Activity
Directions: The pupils will be group into 5
groups. Each group will solve a puzzle and 1. Mutualism
will name and define what interaction 2. Commensalism
solved. 3. Competition
4. Predation
5. Parasitism
L. Evaluation
I. Enumerate the five types of interactions
between organisms.

what kind of interactions it is.
