Syllabus for End of Year Examination 2023


Class 6 (KP/ICT)

ENGLISH

Language (i) Reading Read an unseen grade appropriate comprehension passage and answer
questions with varying degree of challenge.
▪ Identify the purpose and/or main idea of the text
▪ Answer inferential questions based on the given text
▪ Connect the topic in the given text to personal thoughts/opinions/
experiences
▪ Identify meaning by predicting words and phrases in the given text
▪ Identify parts of speech and/or grammatical components and/or
non-grammatical ideas in the given text (mentioned in the writing
section)

Language (ii) Writing Writing for different purposes:


▪ Story writing (with sequence, plot, settings and character/s)
▪ Narrative
▪ Recount/reflective recount
▪ Descriptive
▪ Procedural/instructional/ giving directions
▪ Argumentative/Persuasive
▪ Formal/Informal Letter

As per the purpose of writing, use the following grammatical components


where required:
▪ different types of sentences, such as question, exclamation,
statement
▪ direct/indirect speech
▪ present, past and/or future tense
▪ synonyms/antonyms
▪ relative pronouns: ‘who’ ‘which’ ‘whom’ and/or ‘whose’
▪ punctuate writing using capitalization, full stop, comma, colon,
semicolon, speech marks, exclamation mark, question mark,
apostrophe (for singular possession, plural possession, contraction,
abbreviation), hyphens, dashes and parenthesis

As per the purpose of writing, express the following where required:


▪ facts and/or opinions

(Writing to be assessed according to the criteria shared by the HO)


Listening Assessment to be based on audio clip/s or teachers reading aloud the
provided text.
▪ Listen to follow instructions to answer questions
▪ Listen to understand the main idea
▪ Listen for specific details
▪ Listen for meaning
▪ Listen for explicitly stated information
▪ Listen for information that is not explicitly stated
▪ Differentiate facts from speaker’s opinions

Speaking Students should be able to speak on any one of the given prompts for 2-3
minutes
▪ Speak to give information
▪ Speak to describe something using appropriate vocabulary
▪ Speak to give opinion
▪ Speak to share and advocate personal point of view
▪ Extend ideas by supporting them with evidence and examples
(Speaking to be assessed on the criteria shared by the HO)
