Interview Script
from the nursing staff. I have chosen this stakeholder because nurses are responsible for being
present and available to provide care (i.e., initial assessment) to prospective patients waiting in
the emergency room. My interview questions and rationale are as follows:
1. What assumptions by the healthcare staff were made about Sinclair as he was waiting in
the waiting room?
a. Rationale: This question will encourage the stakeholder to identify whether there
were assumptive stereotypes that may have effected the quality of treatment for
the client. The question will seek to understand if these assumptions held by
hospital staff aligned with racism, ableism and classism.
2. With the assumptions that you have listed, do you think that Sinclair was treated
differently compared to the other clients?
a. Rationale: This question will prompt the stakeholder to identify whether hospital
staff had discriminated Sinclair and if it contributed to his death.
3. Brian Lloyd Sinclair was left unattended during his 34 hour wait in the waiting room,
what is your hospital’s protocols for tending to clients in the ER’s waiting room?
a. Rationale: This question asks the stakeholder if the hospital indicates who is
responsible for monitoring clients in the Emergency unit’s waiting room. The
question assess the ethics and notion of responsibility of the hospital concerning
the well-being of people in the building.
4. In your organization, is there a protocol for which clients to prioritize for assessment
and/or treatment, in the waiting room? If so, what are the protocols?
a. Rationale: This question asks the stakeholder to identify whether healthcare staff
followed protocols of monitoring the patient. This question emphasizes whether
Sinclair did not receive prompt treatment due to systemic discrimination or the
hospital’s existing protocols of how/when to monitor the patient.
5. Do you believe that Sinclair was not tended to or monitored within those 34 hours of
waiting due to his physical appearance?
a. Rationale: This question asks the stakeholder to identify whether Sinclair was
inadequately monitored/tended to based on his race, class and disability.
