LP 4 Subsets of Lines

This document contains a detailed lesson plan for teaching basic concepts and terms in geometry, specifically subsets of lines. The lesson plan outlines the objectives to define a line, line segment, and ray, illustrate subsets of a line, and determine the distance between two points in a line. It details the teacher and student activities, which include a review, motivation activity to connect points and identify geometric figures, and discussions to define line segments and rays. The key concepts are that a line segment has two endpoints and finite length, while a ray has one endpoint and extends endlessly in one direction.

4 A’s DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

I. Objectives
At the end of 60-minute class discussion and class activities, the learners
of Grade 7 of Baliguian National High School are expected to learn the following,
with at least 75% level of accuracy and proficiency:

a. formulate the definition of a line, line segment and a ray;

b. illustrate subsets of a line (line segment, ray, and congruent
segments); and
c. determine the distance between two points in a line.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Basic Concepts and Terms in Geometry

• Greetings
Good morning class! -Good Morning ma'am.
How was your day? -We are fine ma'am.
Well, that’s good to hear.

•Checking of Attendance
Is there any absent from the class?

• Setting Of Standard
First, I would like to remind you our classroom
rules when we are having our class discussion.

LOOK!- Look on my presentation.
LISTEN!- Listen to my discussion.

Are we clear? -Yes ma'am.

Very Good.

two points are connected?
2. What is the difference between figure AB and
figure CD?
3. What is the difference between figure AB and
figure EF?
4. How about figure CD and the figure EF?

I will give you 3 minutes to form that object.

Definition of a Line Segment

ABCD

AD is a line segment. The points A, B, C, and D is on line

segment AD. In notation, we write AD or simply AD. We
can also name it as DA or DA.

E F G H I J

FH is a segment. The points F, G, and H are on line

segment FH. The points E, I, and J are not on line
segment FH. In notation, we write FH . We can also
name it as HF or HF.

A B C D E F G H I J K L M N

The points E, F, G, and J are on line segment EL or

segment LE.
The points C, D, M, and N are not on line segment EL.

Answer the following:

1. Name other points which are on line segment EL.
Ans: The points H, I, and K are on line segment EL.

2. Name other points which are not on line segment EL.

Ans: The points A, B, and N are not on line segment
EL.

and B and all the points between them. If the line to
which a line segment belongs is given a scale so that it
turns into the real line, then the length of the segment

Given the points on the number line:

1. Determine the length of the following:

a. AB = _______ e. AC= _________

b. DE = _______ f. DG = _________
c. BD= _______ g. BE = _________
d. DF = _______ h. CG = _________

Ans:
a. AB = 2 e. AC= 4
b. DE = 2 f. DG = 4
c. BD = 3 g. BE = 5
d. DF = 3 h. CG = 5

2. The following segments are congruent: AB and

DE; BD and DF; AC and DG, BE and CG.

3. The following pairs of segments are not congruent:

AB and CF; BD and AE; AC and BF; BG and AD.

4. Using the figure below, which segments are

congruent?

This is ray AB. We can also name it as ray AC.

In symbol, we write ⃗
AC .

The points A, B, C are on ray AC.

X Y Z

This is ray ZY. We can also name it as ray ZX.

In symbol, we write⃗ ´ .
ZX . We do NOT write it as XZ

The points X, Y, Z are on ray ZY.

H I J K L M

This is ray ML.

1. How else can you name this ray? _________

Ans: ⃗

MI , ⃗
MH .
2. What are the points on ray ML? _________
Ans: The points M, L, K, J, H, and I.

N O P Q R S T

The points Q, R, S, T are on ray QR.

The points N, O, P are not on ray QR.

3. How else can you name ray QR?

Ans: ⃗

The ray. A ray is also a part of a line but has only
one endpoint, and extends endlessly in one
direction. We name a ray by its endpoint and one
of its points. We always start on the endpoint. The
figure is ray AB or we can also name it as ray AC.
It is not correct to name it as ray BA or ray
CA. In notation, we write AB or ⃗
